Summary
Eddie’s eyes were studying Buck’s face, and whatever he saw there made him say, “there’s no way you can keep this from Maddie.”
“No,” Buck folded immediately. “I could try, but . . .”
Eddie’s mouth quirked into a smile, showing a dimple, and it was literally heroic of Buck to leave the house with all that going on. “Tell Maddie,” Eddie offered. “Swear her to secrecy. And we’ll just keep it to ourselves until Chris is back on Friday.”
He was so smart. His best friend was so smart and also wanted to kiss him and also said they were practically engaged.
“Good plan,” said Buck, fighting gravity to continue his way out the door. “It’s just one week. How hard could it be?”
---
On a very normal Sunday, Buck and Eddie confess their feelings for each other; what follows is a week of the least normal behavior the LAFD has ever seen.

Summary
“Are you good, man?” The man asks, voice lowered. “You seem panicked.”
Eddie sighs. As if it’s not annoying enough to die via plummeting elevator, now he has Mr Positive in his personal deathtrap, asking why he isn’t smiling while they all get crushed to death.
“Christopher,” Eddie grunts. “Cover your ears.”
Or, Eddie, Chris, and a random man get stuck in an elevator. Eddie panics.

Summary
Paul Baker steps up beside him and leans in, shoulder brushing Anton’s, peering down with mock solemnity.
“Should we bury her?” he asks. “Give her a little headstone? Here lies Lady Whistlebrew, may her spout rest in peace.”
Anton turns to stare at him— only then realising their close proximity. The last time they were this close, it was barely twelve hours ago. One minute they were laughing about fake marriages, and the next, they were kissing. Like it—meant something.
Or so he thought it did, until Paul Baker had put a hand on Anton’s chest and placed a harsh distance between them.
