The story is told entirely from Felix’s perspective, capturing his hyper-vigilance—he tracks his mother’s mood by the heavy, uneven thuds of footsteps on the floorboards above. To block out his fear and hunger, Felix reads aloud to his only comforts: a patched together, worn-out stuffed rabbit.
