Summary
Rosemary Clarke never planned on finishing high school in Hawkins, Indiana. She definitely didn’t plan on living with her nerdy science-teacher uncle, getting adopted by a bunch of overexcited middle schoolers, or forming an uneasy co-babysitter alliance with Steve Harrington of all people.
But Hawkins is stranger than it looks, and normal keeps slipping through Rose’s fingers. Between Dungeons & Dragons nights, suspicious happenings no one can explain, and one ex–golden boy trying very hard to be better than he was, Rose finds herself building a new life out of grief, bad jokes, and late-night car rides.
There is too much hairspray, cryptic small-town mysteries no one quite wants to name out loud, and two reluctant babysitters who keep ending up on the same side of things. Rose and Steve are determined not to talk about the way they fit together in a crisis… or the quiet, inconvenient feelings that start growing in between monsters, math homework, and middle school dances.

As Steve tries to help El, he finds out there's more to the boisterous and arrogant Billy Hargrove than meets the eye.
"Didn't know you had a kid sister, Harrington?"
Mike loudly said, "That's not his-" but did not finish before Steve kicked him in the shin. The last thing he needed was for El to be taken back to that hellhole because of her friend's idiocy. Was he like that when he was thirteen? He hoped not. He probably was. "Yeah. This is-"
"Jane," El said quietly but with a smile as she looked at Steve.
"She goes by El. It's a nickname they gave her," He pointed at the boys. "El Harrington. This is Billy, he goes to my school."

“Huh,” Stiles says, honing back into the conversation. “So what about now?”
“What? I just told you-”
“Yeah yeah the haircuts,” he flaps his hand, dismissing Theo’s rebuttal. “But the nice big house,” he says, putting air quotes around ‘nice big house’. “Did they leave that in the will for you or…?”
Liam feels his stomach drop down into his ass, making his feet shake, and his lungs rocket up to his throat, closing his airways. He’s never been this angry and scared at the same time before. Screw Theo and his stupid ‘you only feel one emotion at a time’ philosophy.

“Wally, love, this kid deserves the best of the best. I wasn’t going to let him sleep on the couch.” Dick explains.
“Kid?!” Wally exclaims, “Dick, did you kidnap a child?”
“Technically no.”
“What do you mean, technically?!”
“I mean I didn’t take him without parental consent? Technically.” Dick tries (and fails) to explain.
