Summary
In a different timeline, Makomo became the water Hashira, this won't make Giyuu or Sabito return to life, but at least she can honor their memories. In another timeline Sabito spared the demon girl after witnessing the bravery of her older brother, he sees a little of his younger self in him, at least he hopes the boy can protect his sister, unlike him, who couldn't save Giyuu during the final selection. Giyuu doesn't know what is happening; one moment he's slicing Lower Five's neck, another moment he faces two slayers who hold an uncanny resemblance to his late friends.

They've never discussed children before and with him being a Hashira, will putting his obligations that come with his status even be possible? Does Shinobu even want to try and raise children in this world? How are they going to raise a child when they are both Hashira? Will he have to step down and find someone to replace him so that he can properly raise a child? Will Shinobu still love him after his body changes from making a baby?
So many questions plague his mind. He can't wait any longer, he has to rip the bandage off and tell her.
He never would have anticipated such a positive reaction from his mate.

Her hair has grown out longer than he’s ever seen it, onyx locks fading into violet as they reach just past her shoulder. At her feet is her sister’s sword, blade broken near the hilt. Useless. Decorative.
The image, pathetic as it is, punches the breath from his lungs.
The Kocho sisters have never been all that similar in Sanemi’s eyes. Shinobu has always been more aggressive, more rash, more angry, more. She’s just always been so much more. But now… now she is so very little. And so achingly familiar.

From the perspective of canon, not much. They are so low-key about the relationship that not even all the other Hashira know about it. Giyuu and Shinobu promised one another to prioritize their demon slaying missions, but that locus of priority can make it difficult to navigate their roles as spouses. What happens with their missions is of no real concern to the other, right? Maybe they both need to talk more, before they find bigger things to argue about than fictional baby names.This is the chronological version of my somewhat popular Tumblr-based AU, with doodles showing how this sort of lens through which to view canon either makes everything funnier or much more painful. The doodles will be posted here as relevant, but long-time followers of the AU have lots of new material to look forward to.

Shinobu fell asleep at her office - she does a lot lately, ever since she attained Pillarhood. She had always been a hard worker, but these recent days she must work in something that has made her lock herself in the office for days except for dinnertime. Kanao covers Shinobu with one of the blankets she brought from her dorms as she puts the sword to the side -- careful so it doesn’t fall, Kanao doesn’t think she can explain, and Shinobu, who got angry when Kanao and Aoi played with wooden swords, would most likely be so angry that is beyond any imagination.
Or maybe she wouldn’t react, Shinobu does no longer get angry anymore.
When she allows herself to think about it, she thinks she misses the old Shinobu a lot.
Or, Shinobu and Kanao, through each other's eyes.
