Summary
A delicate white hand clasped the edge of the unit, and Megatron went stock still. There was barely a moment to process the pall of silent dread that fell before a second hand came up, and then the presumed-autobot levered himself upright with a small hum of effort.
Megatron slowly pivoted. “Rung,” he said, “what a pleasure it is to see you, after so long.”

Summary
A tiger cloaked in black with a sundial moving over dark eyes flicks its tail, and a fox with blood-stained teeth lifts their head, and a serpent with poison bleeding through each crack in its iridescent scales melts back into the corpse as it speaks.
"Curious," it says, a man's voice, rasped from age and still solid. Gold filigree, burial shroud. A storm bound to a raven's form spreads its wings. "What is the worth of a single mortal life?"
(Vampires are not alive. Undead is not quite dead. Astarion is normal, until he isn't.)
Or: five conversations Astarion has with Death.

Summary
Marcus holds the goblet up, still stinking with klauthgrass, and ponders them, clutched in the wretched claws of his undead monsters. "Well," he says, and smiles. "If you will not willingly drink it, I have a manner of encouragement."
And then he raises his dagger, pricks his own wrist until scarlet pools over his pale skin, and lets blood drip into the goblet.
Before he can help it, Astarion stiffens.
Astarion has spent two hundred years with truth as a bitter enemy. Fitting, then, that his choice to say it is taken from him.

Summary
The histories written afterwards will tell how Sauron died cackling madly in the temple he had built for his Dark Master and how Tar-Míriel, the last queen of Numenor and the last martyr of the Faithful ones, died atop Meneltarma, praying for the Valar. Fitting ends for both characters of the tragedy.
But none of the historians knew how they really died. They weren’t there. And if they were, they didn’t survive. On the streets between the palace and the temple, Mairon and Míriel saw each other across the street. No words could ever be heard over the chaos and noise of the world ending, but seeing was enough in this case. In these last moments, Mairon and Míriel ran towards each other, naked fear so easily visible in their eyes that they both knew. This was the end. Their fingertips just about brushed, and it was almost enough to touch, before the great wave, the wrath of the Valar, ripped them apart.
