Summary
This was a mech whose name was spoken in whispers even among the Decepticons, a mech who had gutted Autobots with the same efficient ease one might strip a damaged component. Most simply assumed he was little more than a sentient weapon.
Most were right.
Tipping his helm back, Thundercracker felt warm, gentle lips press against his own, and let his optics drift shut.
Deadlock.

With Starscream pulling away from the trine in his search for power, and Skywarp growing mad and cruel, Thundercracker starts having doubts about the cause.
Unable to find comfort in his trine, he turns to the only other member of the Decepticon High Command who has ever shown a semblance of dissent.

Summary
Clearly, whatever negotiating he had done, Star had gotten what he wanted. Megatron had probably patted him on the head and told him what a good little jet he was.
"You're a mess," Skywarp said softly, pressing his helm against Starscream's. "You got fluids everywhere. You’re leaking."
"Sorry," Starscream whispered. It was so faint Skywarp almost missed it. "Tired."

Starscream is a regular guest in Megatron's berth. His trine, and every Decepticon, knows this. It's a power play, they tell themselves. He wants it.
Every time Starscream comes back reeking of Megatron, Thundercracker and Skywarp are there to tend to him, increasingly convinced this isn't a risk worth taking.
The day he doesn't make it back, though, is the day his trine realises they're in more danger than they could have possibly anticipated.

"Prime?" Ratchet sputtered, stepping back as Deadlock tried to lunge for him. The Decepticon was glaring, his vocalizer emitting a sound like a grinding saw. "You’re joking. That's Deadlock. What the pit does Prime want me to do with him?!"

Seeker cadets are expected to trine. Everything in their lives—career advancement, safety, normalcy, acceptance—depends on it.
Starscream has a big mouth and an even bigger ego, and no such inclinations whatsoever.
When he mouths off at his superiors, however, Lieutenant Thundercracker and Sergeant Skywarp realise he needs to be taught a lesson.
