Ilya scurries his way back to his seat at Shane’s side, feeling suddenly unsafe in this Ottawa bar. Canadians are never this loud outside of the rink or a riot. And never so organized as it is right now. Literally everyone has stopped their conversations to sing-shout this song.
Shane, at least, is immune to whatever mass psychosis is happening right now. Though he doesn’t seem shocked or even bewildered by what’s going on around them.
“What the fuck is this?” Ilya asks, putting Shane’s ginger ale down in front of him. He’s momentarily distracted from his terror by a drop of spilled ginger ale running down his finger; he holds it to Shane’s mouth to lick clean. Shane rolls his eyes at Ilya, then, tragically, wipes the finger clean with a napkin. “Spoilsport,” Ilya pouts.
“It’s Barrett’s Privateers,” Shane says, as if that in any way explains what the fuck is happening in this bar right now.
They’re like pod people. Or like a hive mind from a scary alien invasion movie.
“What about Barrett’s dick?”

“It’s, uh, lunchtime, sir… and I…” Keith doesn’t really know how to go about telling a multi-billionaire ‘I expected you to feed me’ so he just leaves the thought hanging in the air.
Surprise paints across Shiro’s face as he lifts his head and takes a good look at Keith.
“So it is.” He takes a deep breath and calms himself instantly, the angry aura banished from the room. “I’m sorry, Keith. Come in. You must be starving.”
“I am.” Keith gives a weak little laugh.
It makes Shiro smile. He leans back in his chair, surveying Keith with a sharp eye; he raises one hand in the air and snaps his fingers.
The door behind Keith slams closed, and Keith hears the metallic slide of the lock turning into place. He only has a fraction of a moment to feel confused before his thoughts turn fuzzy. In another moment, Keith’s mind is completely blank.

Summary
Poker night chatter turns to discussing hall passes, which butterfly effects down the road into an awkward dinner party with Jackie and Hayden who ask Ilya and Shane to be Jackie and Hayden's hall passes for a kiss.

Shane has been in and out all night. He’s torn, as always, between wanting to be in the room and chatting with their friends, and being jealous he can’t play. He loves, loves, to sneak a peak at Ilya’s hole cards (pun not intended, but always welcome) and lean over his chair, whispering strategy in Ilya’s ear. It’s adorable, and arousing, and, honestly, frustrating because Shane is absolutely genius at calculating the statistics of each hand and absolutely abysmal at reading the players at the table.
He’ll say things like “With six people at the table, an Ace in the hole has a probability of blah-dee-blah% of being the best hand, and also, smart-people stuff and math-terms. So, I think you should raise the bet.” And completely ignore the fact that at least three other people at the table have made clear signs that they’re sitting on gold.

Meeting this man’s gaze makes the silence crowd in even tighter around Keith, but Keith knows how to hold his ground. He doesn’t waver, his back straight like there’s a steel rod in his spine, as he stares this new alpha down, waiting for the first move. The first indication of what Shirogane is after.
Finally, the alpha cracks. He face doesn’t lose the pleasant calm as he says, “Please, call me Shiro.”
Keith snorts another derisive laugh. “So I’m your friend?”
“I’d like to be.” The craziest part about this is that Keith can clock a liar a mile away; this man is sincere.
“Sure, sure.” Keith shrugs the sincerity aside. It’s even more uncomfortable than the silence. “And what kind of ‘friend’ treatment are you looking for today? You hoping I’ll hop on your knot for you? Maybe bounce around a bit?”

Summary
These are a series of fics that have mostly to do with me working through what happened in season 7. They all follow chronologically, though there will be some fairly large jumps forward between some. It's all mainly about Keith finding his place and fitting in a family.
I'm tagging this as a Sheith fic, because that's what it is to me, but it is only going to be subtle Sheith until the last fic which I'm planning to post Friday. There's some Adashi at the begining, and quite a bit of Kaxca, but let's be serious, Sheith is the end goal!

Shane turns bright red, his freckles showing up as lighter pink specks against the dusky color of his cheeks. “It’s not like… I haven’t been… I don’t have a crush on you or anything!”
“Why not?” Hayden demands, too shocked to filter his words. “We’re best friends! I’d have a crush on you if I was gay!”
Shane gapes up at him. Jackie puts her hand over her mouth, her eyes dancing. Hayden realizes, far too late, how that must have sounded.
