He felt grateful that it was just the two of them in the forest, or else he would recoil into himself and die of embarrassment if anyone else saw the way his strong feelings for Martin caused such detrimental turmoil. Sure, he’s had multiple crushes on girls and an actual girlfriend in the past that left him infatuated, but those connections were superficial in hindsight. Martin and Hamzah’s bond was different. It felt like second nature to Hamzah, the way it came so easily to him, and he knew it was deep-seated in his soul to have his life intertwined with Martin’s.
