“No,” he says.

She exhaled harshly, and looked away, unconsciously mirroring his own crossed arms. “Fine.”
Jayce perked up. It worked! “So…?”
Mel sighed again, no longer hiding her obviously uncomfortable mood. “When we arrived, I noticed an… old friend. One I had not seen in many years. I was not aware she would be attending tonight, nor who she would be attending with. It caught me off guard, and left me unsettled. I apologize for allowing it to affect me so much.”
