He had been aflutter with little comments as he scooped the little pod-shaped critter into his palm, murmuring that it was just the prettiest little bug he’d ever seen, and how he'd right like to keep him and see what a beautyful butterfly he’d be.
He let it free just like all the others, though, setting it at the edge of the yard under a nice shady leaf.
“You take care ‘yerself, blue,” He told the caterpillar, whistling a chipper tune as he turned and walked back into the house.
