The good thing of being roommates with your ex, Wylan thinks, is that he doesn’t have to tearfully hold onto Jesper’s sweatshirts and hope that the scent still remains. He can just go into the laundry room and sniff Jesper’s fabric softener like a completely well-adjusted, reasonable and mature adult.

Hugo never really questioned where he came from.
He didn’t have a reason to. The area he grew up in was riddled with orphans. The people were far too busy to look up who his parents were before they probably died horribly like everyone else in this godforsaken town. Whatever. It didn’t matter to him. All that mattered was survival, and then, after escaping the town with Donella, pleasing her.
He had a family. It wasn't blood. He was content with that.
Which is of course, when it all goes to shit.It starts with a dream.

Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.
