songfic inspired by the song "je te laisserai des mots". when sirius runs away, he leaves regulus as heir, forcing him to join the deatheaters. with so much weight on his shoulders, reg begins to write sirius notes in french, and slips them under his door. as the weight of it all becomes too much, regulus spirals before making his ultimate decision to sacrfice himself in hopes of a better future. what could regulus possibly have to say, and what happens when sirius finds all the notes in his childhood bedroom when he returns to grimmauld during his time in the order (poa)?

Summary
The water tribe siblings stand tall besides him, a stern look on their faces. They're dressed in black, no indication of their roots other than the small beads adorning their hair and the tan color of their skin.
“You're the Fire Prince, right?”.
His body clenches at the title. “Zuko”, he offers. “There's no fire prince”.
The girl’s face stiffens, but when the boy -Sokka, a memory from years ago resurfaces- speaks, his voice is softer. “Zuko”, he repeats the name, and it makes Zuko's fingers numbly tingle. He tells himself it's from the cold.
-Or, The Fire Nation loses the war before the Avatar’s return. Aang cannot restore balance without starting another one. Ergo, a blazing revolution.

“Your lungs have collapsed. You can barely breathe on your own. Aang’s been keeping you alive with airbending.”
Oh. That explains a lot. Zuko can’t do anything but choke in response.
Thankfully, the Water Tribe boy isn’t looking for a response. “Not even four hours ago, Katara was the only thing keeping you from bleeding out on the pier. You’re probably just minutes away from being back where you were then.” He accentuates his point by gently applying more pressure to Zuko’s injury. Fucking ow. “You need them. If you want to stay alive, you don’t try anything. Okay?”

When his ship explodes, Zuko isn't so lucky to get away unscathed. No amount of firebending can protect him from the solid steel the explosion launches everywhere. His ship is lodged in his chest, and he can't breathe. He must rely on the Avatar to do it for him.

Toph frowned and earthbent a pebble into his face. It hit his scar. He winced.
“Fine,” she huffed, “Stay here and hide. But if you’re not coming, neither am I; I can tell there’s something you’re not telling me.”
An angsty little one shot where Zuko is afraid of people on Ember Island recognizing his scar, so he doesn’t go out when everyone else does. Toph doesn’t know about Zuko’s scar, so she doesn’t understand why he won’t go out, and they end up fighting about it but then they have closure.
