Summary
Montreal didn't take the news of Shane's and Ilya's relationship very well.
Shane would've never thought that the hatred of his teammates could run so deep, until he finds himself lying half-conscious on the floor, with blood coating his lips and face.
In the aftermath, Shane tries to protect Ilya as much as he can, not wanting to bother him with his fears.
Ilya doesn't want to do anyhting more than protect Shane from his fears, afraid Shane's refusal to talk will change their relationship irrevocably.
orAU fic set after Shane and Ilya's involuntary outing. A few teammates attack Shane. Ilya freaks out. Shane shuts everyone out. The following weeks are hell. Shane has to learn to overcome his fears.

Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them.
He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander.
Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was.
or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.
