Summary
Eddie Munson isn't very good at puzzles.
Well.
He can make them, sure, in the form of weeks-long campaigns for his bandmates and a ragtag group of now sophomores he'd come to adore. He's great at making them. Great at making villains that his party thought they'd had figured out, beaten, only to make a quick 180 and have them come back from the dead for a final, earth-shattering fight. Yeah. He can make them.
What Eddie Munson can't do when it comes to puzzles, is figure them the fuck out. Especially, it seems, when the puzzle comes in the form of a boy one year younger than him and slightly shorter when you don't count his mass of gorgeous hair that makes him, falsely, look taller than Eddie. This puzzle had saved the world with him, had saved him when he was sure he was a goner.
The puzzle's name, of course, is Steve Harrington. King Steve, to many, Hawkins High's golden boy, rich and charming and apparently, a fucking badass.
Eddie never stood a chance.

ao3 won’t let me comment because of the spam filter so here’s what I wish I could comment on this chapter:
There’s a moment in every one of your fics (I know because I’ve been binge reading them) where everything just suddenly hits me like a ton of bricks. “Like Wayne set it up, kept adding to it, maybe waiting for him to come back, not knowing when that would be or what version of him would walk through the door when he did.” was that moment for me. I keep thinking “they write conflict so well”, but you also write quiet moments so well, never over-explaining, spoon-feeding me everything, but giving me the perfect amount to paint the picture myself.

ao3 won’t let me comment again for some reason. So here’s what I wanted to comment on this chapter -God, it was so awful seeing Eddie tweaking in the hospital. I knew right away, and it was so hard to watch Steve slowly get it.
The Grammys chapter was rough, and draining, but this chapter really affirmed how fucking brave it was of Steve to leave. That’s not easy, and it just hit me how proud I am of him, seeing him actually be honest with Eddie for once. Not make himself smaller.
“Starts from the bottom. Working upwards. Small sections at a time. Slowly. The way you're supposed to.” Are we still talking about combing out knots? I don’t think we’re just talking about combing out knots.
I wonder if Eddie realizes what Steve’s doing, cleaning him. The way he knew Steve cleans when that’s all he knows how to control, how to fix something.
I hope this is Eddie’s rock bottom. I’m not sure it is, but I hope I’m wrong. All I know is that I trust you and the story you’re telling. I’m really holding onto that “eventual happy ending” tag with both hands.
Gonna go listen to Porch Light, Orbiter, and Call Your Mom. And cry

Steve pushed him into the wall, so hard he hit his head.
“Maybe your minions find this funny, but they’re not here so drop the fucking act, got it? I’m not participating in your games, freak."
“You’re so full of yourself, you think everyone wants to fuck you all the time,” Eddie spat. They were close by Steve’s will now, backing Eddie into the wall, now he was finally taller even if it was a little more than an inch with his hair.
“Like you don’t,” Steve scoffed.
