Summary
'He would become more than the grease in his hair and the bruises he carried around his heart. He wanted to make his parents proud, wanted to show his brothers they could do anything with their lives, wanted to make the Curtis name into something to be proud of and not wear like a burden that had been thrusted upon their shoulders since birth.'
Or-
Darry is going through it, reminiscing on all that he had lost and all that he had gained.

Summary
‘And Pony was pretty sure that the smile on Darry’s face could rival the brightness of the sun. The kind of smile that made the corner of his eyes crinkle from happiness, not from nights of worry spent pouring over bills, trying to figure out how he would be able to put food on the table for his boys.’
Or
Moments between the Curtis brothers, the heartbreak and love that it takes to find their way to one another.

Summary
'As much as he wanted to believe those words that his mother had once spoken, how the sunrise brought something precious into the world, Darry wasn't sure if she was right anymore. The only thing this sunrise would bring would be their first full day without her and dad, that each sunrise and sunset from here on out would signify a day without them, time that the three of them would never get with their parents again.'
Or...
The Curtis brothers try their best to navigate the loss of their parents for the first six months. Finding strength and love in each other and their friends, while it might not be the easiest, each other is all they have left.

Summary
I took in a wheezing breath, gradually losing the will to stay conscious. I’d been putting up one hell of a struggle, but there was a gentle voice somewhere inside my head whispering don’t fight it, go to sleep, and I was just about ready to give in. I heard Darry shouting above me, and was distantly aware of someone slapping my face hard, but by then it was too late. I was already going, going, gone.
Or, Ponyboy gets jumped and ends up very hurt very fast.

Summary
Ponyboy's always been the quiet one—bookish, skittish, and painted in shades of bashful red whenever affection touches him too closely. But to Darry and Sodapop, he's the sun they orbit, the softness they protect in a world far too rough.
This is a story stitched with warmth, where every brush of fingers through his hair, every shared laugh at the kitchen table, and every sleepy moment on the couch says one thing: you’re ours. And we love you more than life itself.
And maybe—just maybe—Ponyboy is starting to believe it.

Summary
“The Curtis’ are lovely people, I promise you. I went to high school with them. They have two kids of their own, thirteen and ten, respectively. I reckon you’ll get along with them just fine.”
“Why’re they takin’ me if they already got kids?”
Catherine smiled at him through the rear view mirror. “I guess you’ll have to ask them, hm?”
Darrel grumbled, crossing his arms and sinking down into his seat.
“Darrel, stop it,” She demanded. “They’re a nice family with sweet kids. You need to try to get along with them, that’s all I’m asking. Even if it’s just for a year until you age out.”
One more year.
////
Or, after years of being bounced from house to house, Darrel Shaynne is finally getting his forever home. Or, well, the final home they’ll let him stay in. Darry doesn’t know who these Curtis’ are, but every interaction with them makes his head spin. His world tossed upside down in one afternoon.

Summary
The gang's been making jokes about Pony's weight again. Pony's been laughing along. And Darry's been telling himself it's nothing, it's just how boys are, it's fine—until he finds his baby brother curled against his chest in the dark, crying so hard he can't speak, and realizes exactly how heavy those words have become.
A story about the weight of growing up, the weight of words, and the weight of a brother's head against your heart.
