Summary
After Ivy convinces Karen to take back Dev, they share an impulsive, illicit kiss. Unfortunately, someone threatens to leak their cheating to the press, putting Karen's career and Bombshell at risk. She and Dev devise a plan: she'll come out as lesbian, claim Dev was her beard, stage a brief fake relationship with Ivy, and then retract it all when the public's focus shifts away. But what happens when Karen and Ivy realize their emotions for each other aren’t as shallow as they'd thought?

"Despite the impulse, Karen hasn’t actually brought Ivy over to her own place yet. She planned on it, of course, said all the right things and led Ivy through the grid-streets for a while… Instead they went out for kebabs, where she got the chance to wipe away sauce from Ivy’s chin. It was no great loss. But to enter comes with expectations. She’s had boys there before without going all the way; somehow with Ivy that seems harder. As if, by opening up her home, the whole flood of desperation will rush to her unassuageable."

Behind Ivy’s hair brush and eyeshadow pallet, Karen spots something bright orange: a pill bottle, only half-empty. She pulls away from Ivy’s touch and goes over to pick it up. “What is this?” she says. As she moves it, another bottle is revealed behind it. She holds both bottles up so Ivy can see that she’s discovered them. “And this—I mean, seriously?”

Maybe the nose is sharper? The skin—a sicklier shade, smoother, more wax-like than human? She can’t identify the flaws with any accuracy now. It’s been too many years.
