Mark exhales, softer, a little defeated. “…I just wish you could be with us too. That you could rest too.”
That makes something flicker in Donghyuck’s eyes, softer than usual. He closes the zipper of his bag, crosses the room, takes off his cap and takes the hand Mark has stretched toward him. Mark tugs him down gently until Donghyuck is half-leaning against the bed, close enough that Mark can see the tired lines around his eyes, the few scattered tiny scarring spots, his moles. He's so beautiful in Mark's eyes, no matter what.

Donghyuck doesn’t resist. He melts, arms looping around Mark’s shoulders, burying his face in the crook of Mark’s neck, letting a long exhale.
“Talk to me,” Mark murmurs, breath warm against Donghyuck’s temple, fingers stroking at his ribs. “What is it?”
Donghyuck shakes his head once, hard. “No time,” he whispers, and it’s cracked, like something’s splintering under his skin. “I don’t want to think, hyung— Just want you.”
Mark’s breath catches. He pulls back just enough to see him, to cup his face in both hands. “You have me,” he promises, voice rough.

“I knew you’d be here,” Mark breathes. “Didn't want to use my phone, and you wouldn't answer the text before I got here anyways, so.”

Donghyuck’s fingers curl around Mark’s forearm where it’s locked across his stomach. “Come on, you take quick shower and then we can crash.” he says, already tugging Mark back down the dark hallway.

Cue a typical takeout dinner that turns special once a photo of the tree makes its way to the NCT group chat, unleashing chaos. Mark somehow finds himself caught in Haechan’s mix of relentless teasing and unexpectedly soft moments of affection that threatens to send our beloved main rapper and dancer to an early grave.
