Summary
“Wait, wait, wait.” Alastor pins his ears back against Vox’s frequency, not because it hurt-but because it was just annoying. “You don’t want a partnership. But, ‘boyfriends’ is okay?!” Vox screeches.
“Partnership means an exchange between equal values.” Alastor says offhandedly, as if it was common knowledge. “And “boyfriend" suggests camaraderie, dates, flowers, and the like.”
Vox scoffs loudly, throwing a candy wrapper at Alastor’s head.

“How could you forget?! I bent down on my knee, proposed with a shiny, huge diamond ring-which everyone would’ve been jealous of, by the way.” Vox rambles, starting to sound offended that Alastor would forget their make-believe marriage proposal.
Alastor snorts, “You did no such thing.” He shakes his head, as if the mere thought of Vox getting on his knees was unbelievable.
“Yes, I did.” Vox insists, because of course he would.

And, of course, Alastor laughs. He laughs, and laughs, and laughs. It’s mean and cruel, it digs in Vox’s chest and he still, pathetically, wants to kiss him so bad.
“I think you’ve completely lost your mind, sweetheart.” Alastor says in between giggles.
“Yeah, probably.” Vox responds dreamily, his claws twisting the glass cup.

“Do you want to dance?” Vox blurted out.
Alastor regarded the demon in his room. This puzzling man who consistently steps over the line, who Alastor should’ve killed over and over again for touching him. Alastor should say no, but he doesn’t for some reason, not to Vincent.
Alastor finds himself chuckling and offering his hand out for Vox to take. “Only if I get to lead this time, Vincent.”

Summary
“You need a hand, honey?”
There it is again, that stupid nickname. Jon would refer to every damn thing in that overtly affectionate, callously unprofessional term. Jon was becoming more like his mother as time went on, calling everyone “honey”.
“I can take care of myself, or did your inter-dimensional travel interfere with your memory?”
Damian hoisted himself onto the horse, ignoring how horribly good Jon looked leaning against his rusted farm motorcycle.
“Good to know you’re still a brat.”
“Tt.”
Or, the one where Jon and Damian drifted apart ever since he came back from the Legion. Four years later, they’re forced to reunite when Damian is sent away to spend the summer over at the Kent’s family farm.

Summary
“Alastor?” Vincent calls out more urgently. He doesn’t waste any time and swings the door open, stepping quickly into a narrow set of descending stairs. “Are you okay?”
There’s a familiar iron tang in the air. He recognizes it well from the operating room. It’s blood and the smell thickens, permeating the air as he approaches the last step. Vincent’s heart pounds in his chest. For there to be that much blood-- he’s already rolling his sleeves up preparing for a massive injury.
Alastor looks up at him, a furrow in his eyebrows. He’s wearing a white apron stained red. A meat cleaver in one hand. A human body laid out on the steel table in front of him, its two legs missing. The blood is still dripping. It hasn’t even started coagulating yet.
Vincent’s breath stutters. He stares, not comprehending what this is; what he’s seeing.
Alastor sighs and wipes his hands on his apron, setting the knife beside the body. “Oh, my dear, I wish you wouldn’t have come down here.’’
Or Vox is on his way to a surgical conference and after a broken down car is picked up by a kind local to use his phone, unfortunately he stumbles across what happens in the basement.- Language:

Summary
New Orleans, 1926: In a world of ink, paper, and rigid social lines, 21 year old Vincent Whittman is still a shadow who’s chasing the light. A former copyboy with a grey streak in his hair and a revolutionary invention in his satchel: the future of sight and sound.
After a brutal rejection from the city’s elite, Vincent finds an unexpected witness in Alastor: the magnetic Creole, King of Radio whose smile is as sharp as a razor and whose influence knows no bounds.
A glass of Sazerac, a note hidden under a coaster, and a cryptic quote from Walt Whitman. Vincent wanted to change the world; Alastor might just be the one to help him burn the old one down.

Summary
Luga just stared at him, her mask of indifference slipping into incredulity. “Sir,” she began slowly, “you are aware that those weddings are real, aren’t you?”
“What?” Vox said, startling out of his trip down memory lane.
Vox blinked at Luga. She didn’t blink back.
With a growing cavern of ice freezing over the pit of his stomach, Vox said, “No, they’re not.”
“Yes, they are.”

Summary
When the other Vees don't show up to stop Vox, Alastor is forced to, once again, save the day himself. He offers to make Vox a deal. One martini in exchange for saving the world.
Of course, every deal made in Hell has much more to it than what the words alone say. Their personal history with the cocktail goes back to the 1960's, a brand new sinner named Vincent getting the lay of Hell, a wide-smiling patron of the arts, and an utter refusal to ever define a relationship.
It's a love story, if you squint.
