Summary
Most people knew this about him, most of his coworkers respected his nods or otherwise silent greetings and didn’t bother to try and converse with him.
All except one Nicholas Nelson, of course.
Nick was a morning, afternoon, mid-afternoon, and night person. Much to Charlie’s chagrin, Nick was a never-off-even-for-a-single-second-of-the-day type person.
And, boy, that irritated Charlie to no end because no person should always be that cheerful and happy and full of conversation.

Summary
Nick originally thought he’d come home from uni a lot more often than he ended up doing. It was probably a bit silly to think he’d have the time and money to come down twice a month, but he really wanted to see Charlie and his mum in person as often as possible. It worked for the first month; he managed to come out two weekends, but after that things got really busy and train tickets went up in price and suddenly, nearly two months had gone by and he hadn’t been back home.
By the time Nick came home for the Christmas holiday, it was the longest time he’d been away from Kent, let alone his home, Nellie, and Henry to boot.

Summary
Growing up, Charlie really didn't have a lot of friends, besides Tori. He was a bit shy as a kid, especially when meeting new people, and tended to stay quiet in large groups. He just never really clicked with anyone until Tao asked about his Radiohead sticker and suddenly he'd found someone who actually shared in his interests. Someone who asked questions about Charlie's interest and was, well, so cool and fun to talk to.
Charlie was willing to look past a lot of things with Tao, including the reason why he'd been outed in the first place. It really hadn't been Tao's fault, it wasn't like he wanted to be overheard or anything. Charlie hadn't explicitly told him not to talk about it in public, just that he hadn't been ready to come out to anyone else at the time.
(or Charlie and Tao have a fight because that's a part of friendship sometimes)

Summary
The migraines weren’t new, but over the last few years they’d gone down in frequency. When it first started happening, it scared both of them so badly, he rushed Nick to the A&E certain he was about to watch his boyfriend die. He’d never seen Nick in so much pain he couldn’t open his eyes, couldn’t speak and every time he moved, he vomited. After several tests and scans, the verdict was simple, sudden onset migraine in an adult. The reasoning, everyone had said, was varied but none of Nick’s other blood work indicated a problem.
The only pattern they noticed was they happened more frequently if Nick was stressed out. But today’s migraine seemingly had no trigger.
All in all, it was just random. Which to Charlie, somehow made it much worse. It was easier to help when he knew the cause, when they could just talk it out and he could hold his husband and reassure him things were going to be alright. It sometimes made Charlie’s anxiety trigger when he didn’t know just how to fix things but his coping methods now were much safer and easier to handle.
(or Nick has a migraine and Charlie takes care of him)

Peter scoffed, rolling his eyes despite knowing Tony couldn’t see him. “You don’t have to like him. And you like Matt, and Matt trusts him.”
“Like is a very strong word for how I feel about him. I said he was a good lawyer, that does not mean I like him.”
Peter knew that was pretty accurate, Matt got him out of some deep legal troubles but Tony still only tolerated him. A part of him hated being treated like this, like he was still the little kid, not the adult who’d been to space before.
“Tony,” Peter said pointedly. “Unless you want to come out of retirement, I’m going to have to ask Frank for help.”

Charlie surprises Nick at one of his rugby matches during his first semester at Leeds

When the game finally ends (with a Leeds victory!), I select one of the best photos I took of him today, then with shaking hands, I type out two sentences.
You look fit as fuck in that jersey. Wanna make out?
I hit send, then wait. I’m literally trembling from head to toe, beaming like an idiot.
I watch him and his teammates happily chatting and patting each other on the back. They make their way over to the sideline where they slowly start grabbing their phones and water bottles.
I watch Nick like a hawk, almost vibrating out of my skin at this point. I think I might actually die of anticipation.
He grabs his phone and water bottle, taking a long swig and then making some comment to the guy on his left, who laughs and claps him on the back. He smiles, then grabs his phone and starts walking toward the changing rooms, in the opposite direction from where I’m sitting. SERIOUSLY, Nick?! Without even looking at it?! I start to worry that he’s truly not even going to check it when I see him stop dead in his tracks.

Charlie tugged on Nick’s sleeve. “Are you sure you should be playing?” he asked in a low voice. “You sound awful.”
Nick rubbed his eyes. “I—”
“He’s fine,” said Harry, ploughing between them with all the courtesy of a sledgehammer. He slapped Nick’s back cheerfully. Nick stumbled under the impact, pressing a fist to his mouth to keep from coughing again. Seemingly oblivious, Harry added, “It’s just man flu innit. You can still throw a ball, can’t you Nick?”
“Yeah,” Nick said, grimacing. “I’m still good to play.”
After their last match is cut short by the weather, the Truham rugby team are up against St John’s for a second time. They’re determined to be at the top of their game. Except, struck down with a heavy, miserable cold, Nick’s feeling far from it.
When he insists on playing anyway, Charlie assumes it’s the idiot rugby lad in him. But what if there’s another reason?

Summary
Living mostly without Charlie for any period of time, Nick quickly came to realise, was hard.
It started off impossible.
He knew—at least part of him did—that it was better, to not just be helplessly watching Charlie suffer. He knew the sooner this happened, the better for Charlie, and the sooner it would be over. He knew Charlie had made the decision himself, and that Charlie truly believed this—being away from his family and friends, away from Nick, but with people who really knew how to help in a place he wouldn’t be judged—was the right, and maybe the only, thing to do.
Nick knew he hated this, regardless.
