    Summary

There are not enough Sorvus fics on AO3 and I plan to fix that!

This is the beginning of a series. It will be mostly canon compliant up until season 6. This is Arc 1, and will focus on the timeskip years between season 3 and 4.

The Battle of the Storm Spire is over. Viren is dead. Soren's entire family is gone. Soren is unsure how to proceed.

He isn't quite a Crown Guard anymore, but... he isn't NOT one either. He desperately hopes that his friends don't still hate him after he followed Viren for so long. He needs to find someone else to lean on, he can't ask his friends to do that for him. They have so many other things to spend their time on, like making peace treaties and establishing new laws in Katolis.

Corvus is exasperated with this man. Soren follows him around like a duckling, making terrible jokes and debatable decisions. What is he supposed to do, babysit a fully grown man and teach him to use his brain? He already has a king to protect. Letting Soren get so attached can't be a good decision. But it has been a long while since Corvus had someone to trust. Surely a casual friendship can't hurt?

But neither man has anyone else to turn to. Why not spend a bit of time together?

    Summary

    “You can’t dance?”

“For the hundredth time- I’ve always been the musician.” Technically, Corvus does know how to dance, just not the dance he’s expected to know.

But at Corvus’ words, a grin splits across Soren’s face and in response, Corvus feels what he thinks is a healthy amount of trepidation.

“You can’t dance.” And now, his partner sounds gleeful and undeniably delighted by this development.

“Okay, now you’re really rubbing it in.”

Ezran thinks that Corvus can easily learn a set of dances for an event taking place in under a month.

Opeli thinks that with Soren teaching him, they need another a month at least.

or; soren gives corvus dance lessons. not much dancing goes on.

    Summary

The Eridian thrills a high sound that doesn’t get picked up by the translator which means that it has no clear meaning. Like when a human gasps or sucks in a deep breath. It actually sounds a little like that. When they notice that I’m staring straight at them they scramble back into their hiding spot and hold very still.

    A child, I realize with a start.

    That’s a child!

“Hey,” I call and the kid squeaks again. I was about to get to my feet but abort the movement and crawl closer on my hands and knees until I'm inches away from the xenonite wall. I wait and it takes me much too long to realize that they don’t have to peek around the corner to see if I’m still there.

“Hey there,” I try again, my voice low and calm. It’s my teacher voice, the one I use for shy and scared students.

    Used.

The fact that I haven’t had to use it for years and it still comes to me automatically almost knocks the air out of my lungs but this is not about me, it’s about making sure the little pebble doesn’t die of fright from the scary alien. “Hi, I’m Grace. It’s alright, you don’t have to be scared.”

    Summary

“I said that’s enough,” his father’s voice got a little louder before he leveled it back out again. “Go do something else. You aren’t helping here.”

Soren took his eyes off of the wood and glanced at his sister, who wasn’t making eye contact with either of them, similarly to Soren just before. Their father was still looking at him, and nodded his head towards the door motioning for Soren to leave.

So he did. Soren walked calmly out of the room, calmly down the long hall, calmly down the rounded staircase, and calmly out of the front of the castle’s door. As soon as he got to the training dummies, his calmness left and was replaced by a different kind of frustration than he was feeling before

    -

    or

Soren also wanted to make his dad proud, and he would do it in the form of training to be the best and youngest crownguard. Even if he’s only 12 and can’t actually train yet.
