“Was I cruel, to call you an eager black hole in San Francisco?” Armand asks as he leans forward and gently touches Daniel’s jaw, tracing the back of his index finger along its edge, which has been softened by age.
The question and touch startle Daniel, and he flinches. Armand tries to pull away but Daniel moves faster for once, grabbing at Armand’s wrist and pushing his maker’s hand closer to him.
“Yes,” Daniel says as Armand strokes his skin again, “but you weren’t wrong, either.”

Daniel doesn’t move back. He just stands there, running his thumb gently over Armand’s skin before moving his hand to the back of Armand’s neck, fingers carding through the hair that hangs down from his bun.
“I remember enough.”

The corner of Armand’s mouth twitched–almost a smile–and it made Daniel’s heart soar. God, he was so fucking lame. This thing with Armand—non-romantic companionship, Daniel had agreed to call it—was a fucking test of patience and endurance in equal measure. He’d set the parameters himself, had told Armand to cool it with the love shit, but god it wasn’t like he was heartless. Or blind. Every day was a trial.

This made Armand turn all the way towards him and cradle his face with a cold hand. "Beloved, I've already fed from you tonight. I don't wish to make you weak with blood loss before we head out."
"Don't feed, then." He turned his head to kiss the palm that held him. "Just… stay inside."
"Stay. With my fangs." The crease between his eyebrows told Daniel he was genuinely trying to understand the request, not mocking him. He smiled again, knowing he had Armand hooked.
"Inside of me, yes. I won't lose all that much blood, if you're careful." He buried his head in Armand's neck and went in for the kill. "You'll be careful, won't you?"
