“These creatures are called titans?” The one with the scarf asks, as if it’s totally normal to have never heard of titans before.
“Indeed.” Erwin says. "Forgive my rudeness, I forgot to introduce myself.” Like hell he had. “My name is Commander Erwin Smith.”
The man across from him blinks at the title before moving one hand up to his eyebrow, palm flat and facing the ground. “Sir.” He greets. “My name is Captain Link, although I admit I am not here in a professional capacity.”
A captain. That implies a military. That implies civilization.
Civilization that knows nothing of titans.
Civilization outside the damn Walls.
Levi can already feel the headache this shitstorm is about to cause forming.

How long did it take before anyone noticed he was missing?Half a decade ago, he would have been ten times as scared as he is right now. He wouldn’t have crumbled and shown it, but he probably would have accepted the likely possibility that he was going to be left here to die. That his father would turn a blind eye and his half-brothers would take the opportunity to pounce and he would just be another dead sibling of a future king. That the first people who noticed his absence--likely his aunt and the other dark elves that serve him--were unable to get enough attention or support for a rescue effort.
Things are different now. Better. He’s stronger in both terms of physical and political power. He has far more trusted allies.

Then again, Alberu is pretty strong without a weapon. His power is easy to sense right now, since the man is standing there without any disguise.
He looks more handsome in this form, Choi Han thinks. He’s handsome in either form, but there’s a fluidity and freedom that blond-haired and blue-eyed Alberu doesn’t have that this quarter-Dark Elf holds.
With his swordsmaster eyes, he can see Alberu’s eyes clearly. They’re a solid brown, without any gold flecks or red tint. Just brown.
They look like the dirt that every piece of light lives on. They look like nuts Choi Han had managed to find when he was starving alone that let him persist just a little longer. They look like the dead leaves when the sky turns cold that you can find a simple joy in from playing with. They look-

Summary
“Eren, why are you crying?” The girl--Mikasa--now has worry present in her voice. It’s better than the casualness it once held, but still feels off. It’s too soft and gentle.
He wipes his eyes. He’s not sure why he’s crying. He doesn’t feel sad or happy or scared or anything else. He’s at the point where there is so much to feel but it’s too overwhelming so instead he feels nothing but aching numbness.
He stands and his body feels like it’s something disconnected from him. It’s almost like he’s in Titan form, where he’s in control and present but the body still feels distinctly other.
“Let’s go.” He states, and lets his feet lead him to a home that’s nearly a decade dead.
[Time travel fic, but with less of a focus on 'fixing everything' and more of a focus on how Season 4 Eren would deal with going back in time after he's already accepted his death and how that would impact this new timeline. Despite this, many things still get fixed.]

It was the announcement that the chūnin exams were coming up that got Rin thinking.
“Hello, Rin,” Minato-sensei says warmly.
“Hello, sensei.” She nods back as she takes off her sandals. “Pardon the interruption. I'm here to make a request of Kushina."
Kushina is on the couch in the living room, several papers on the table. They’re all take-out menus, which she appeared to have been in the middle of organizing methodically.
“Hello, Kushina.” She says, and pushes her confidence a bit higher so that it doesn’t die out. “I’ve come to become your student, and learn the ways of fūinjutsu.”
[Prequel to "we can take the world back from the heart-attacked", centered around Rin and her refusal to be left behind by her teammates from shinobi clans]

The only reason he’s hesitating right now is because of some stupid false hope he had let himself feel. Some notion that someday others will know of Virgil. That they’ll help him and love him and make him real.
Some stupid notion of family. Why would he ever get that? Bad guys don’t get their dreams fulfilled. They don’t deserve it. They don’t deserve anything but ruin.

“So please,” Thomas says, and his voice cracks. He reaches out a hand to Anxiety. “Give us another chance. And, please, give yourself one as well.”“I don’t deserve one,” Anxiety says, but it’s quiet, weak. There are tears in his own eyes, so he ducks his head and lets his bangs fall to cover his eyes.
“I think you deserve one most of all.” Thomas answers firmly.

He lies that he’s as cold and vicious as people say, because solitude is better than being prey. He lies that his name is based off of his middle name - he doesn’t even have one - because people rarely call him what he tells them to unless there’s a reason that can be put down on an official document. He lies and feigns indifference, because he’s done with being bullied for that kid who likes poetry and theater and philosophers older than grandparents.
He lies and lies and lies and lies until no one knows what is true.
He lies that he doesn’t care to meet his soulmates. That’s the biggest lie of them all.
Because despite his cynicism and pessimism and everything else in between, he can’t help but hope that when he meets his soulmates, they’ll take him away from all the lies.
He does wonder sometimes, though, if he’s lying to himself by even considering that a possibility.
After all, who could love a liar?

Which is why she now curses under her breath as she picks the lock of the captain’s quarters of the merchant’s ship, knowing that this is, by far, the dumbest thing she’s ever done. She should bail the mission, take her chances with pretending to be an innocent and cry fake tears. She should save herself and not risk discovery, because even if the members of Lightning Fox won’t kill the innocents of the vessel they’ve currently boarded without reason, she doubts they’d take kindly to competition trying to steal their loot right from under their noses.

“Says fourth.” Kakashi retorts, before moving towards him. He grabs Obito’s arm and yanks him suddenly out of the forest, ignoring his squawk of protest.
“Let go of me, Bakashi-”
“Shut up.” Kakashi snaps, something odd in his tone that actually quiets Obito down out of surprise alone. They’ve had their back and forth going for years now, to the point where he knows the rest of their old classmates are pretty sure its a language of their own. Despite his verbal disagreements, he’s not entirely convinced they’re wrong when moments like these arise.
Kakashi lets go of him suddenly, but Obito’s no green genin that falls over at the sudden action. He takes a few steps away, stabilizing himself. They’re back near the shore, by the lake Obito had oh-so-satisfyingly dumped Kakashi into hours prior.
“Fight me.” Kakashi says, his voice solid and serious. Not super serious, but it's a far cry from the sudden light-hearted mood.
It might say something about their relationship that Obito doesn’t even hesitate. It’s not that he’s ready to fight the Hatake at any given opportunity, it’s just-

He looks between them, not entirely comprehending. Then again, that is typical when so many emotions are involved. Feelings - the bane of his existence.
“Yes. Now that you have concluded the courtroom copy, are you content enough for the correct course of action?” He restates his previous sentiment, in case they had misinterpreted it. He does not see how they could have, but they do repeatedly astound him in that regard.
“What do you mean? What’s the 'correct course of action’?” Virgil inquires, and he looks at Thomas’ Anxiety. Out of everyone present, he would have thought that at least he would have picked up on it.
“Thomas goes to the wedding and the callback.” He says clearly, observing the surprised looks on the faces of the human and Sides around him. Curious.
