“Y- you,” mumbles the heavenly demon.
“... Me?”
“Why- why did you… Why lead it away? Why come out from hiding, why distract it - why save me?! Before you even knew I was- am, also a…” he trails off, eyes flickering, looking down at his hands. ‘Also a demon,’ he doesn’t continue out loud, though Shen Yuan hears the words anyway. A pitchy laugh. He eyes the huli jing darkly.
Shen Yuan blinks. Should he … give him another hug?
Life as a clanless, homeless virgin huli jing without any aim has been going ... well, not swimmingly, but it's been going. Shen Yuan is doing fine - until a random portal scoops him up while chasing a pest away from his den, and dumps him right in the middle of the Immortal Alliance conference!

Those eyes fall completely shut. Without thinking, he grabs hold of the guy’s face and rapidly smacks one palm against his cheek. “Don’t you dare go back to sleep - or being passed out, whatever!”

Soon enough, gray walls cut off unexpectedly, replaced by pure white cabinets and stainless steel appliances: the penthouse’s unfeeling, clinical stomach. Despite what his siblings liked to claim, Shen Yuan wasn’t helpless in the kitchen. Could he say he made it a habit to use it on a daily basis like a responsible adult? Of course not-- with such a busy schedule, instead of making himself a nice, home cooked meal, he wound up ordering food or going out to a restaurant more often than not. Such a system usually worked quite well for him.
But the kitchen has, as of late, begun to show signs of life; placed right in his usual seat at the breakfast bar was a cup of tea and bowl of congee so fresh, twin streams of steam were billowing in the air, replacing the scent of nothingness with one of comfort and nostalgia. On the other end of the bar, neatly wrapped like a thoughtful gift by a dutiful housewife, was a packed lunchbox.
Unfazed, Shen Yuan sat down and began to eat.
