“A real cat?" Her excited tone's gone, voice pitching high with worry. "Running around here?”
The whole time he's known her, Luka-san's constantly been on the brink of too relaxed. She moves without any real tension in her body, fast but easy, more like the wind than a person. Even when she sings, there's always a looseness to it that's the opposite of him, his own body sometimes tighter than a spring from how much power he forces through it. As unserious as she can act, he does admire it.
This is the stillest he's ever seen her.
Akito nods, shifts uncomfortably. “Yeah, 's that bad? It can’t fall off the edge or somethin’, right?” It's mostly a joke, but Luka-san's not laughing. Ice lodges itself in his chest, chills him to the bone. What does falling off the edge of the Sekai even mean? It’ll just kinda float around?
Or something worse?

Sleep deprived and lost, Akito stumbles deeper and deeper towards the edge of the Sekai, chasing the stray cat Toya accidentally brought in.
He can't afford to disappoint him. Not again.

As though snapped to awareness mid-thought, Toya finds himself standing at the front gates of Kamiyama High after school. The trees behind him creak in the wind, bare branches swaying as dust and sand kick up around them. In front of him, the buildings across the street groan in solidarity, a little more of their already crumbling exteriors giving way and disappearing into the breeze, and he winces in sympathy.
For an instant, his eyes catch on the silver earrings of a student he doesn’t recognize. They wink once, twice in the sunlight before disappearing in the crowd, lost.
It feels like he’s forgetting something.

“Herschel, you as well? My, my. You haven’t aged a day.” He held out a hand which 47 stiffly accepted. Herschel? she thought. Well, isn’t that interesting.
Victoria eyed the man suspiciously. He was tall—very tall, as tall as 47 perhaps—slender, dressed very well in a sweater vest and a long wool peacoat, with a face that was plain and generally unremarkable. He had an unassuming smile, with a sort of sleepy look in his eyes. He didn’t seem particularly threatening.
She glanced at Diana, whose neck was glowing pink. She looked to her other side at 47 and noticed his hand clutching open and shut. Victoria looked back at the stranger. Very interesting.

Christmas Holiday in New York City. Diana runs a tight ship and is prepared for any number of things to go wrong. Not on her list of expectations is 47 and Victoria somehow inviting themselves along. And she certainly isn't expecting to run into a character from her past. Well, she is a Handler. She is equipped to handle things...but even she has her limits. She could probably handle one. Or the other. Handling both might be too much.

Ilya does mind. Hearing it said back to him, almost makes him flinch, a sudden and brittle sound right next to his ear that he fails to recoil from in time. But he swallows back the bitter truth and replies, “Of course not. If that is what you want.”
He waits, sitting on his living room couch, phone pressed painfully against his ear, his other hand gripping his knees till his knuckles blanched. He could feel his own heart rattling behind his ribs, pulse rockingloudly. His mind was an echo of alarm, demanding of him: Why isn't Shane saying anything?
It was the loudest silence he’s ever lived through, until Shane finally said, “Okay.”

Exhaling a heavy sigh, Alhaitham glanced down at the pile of laundry and began feeding the clothing into the washer one by one.
A small pair of sleep shorts. One of Kaveh’s usual flowy shirts. Warm socks. Gloves. A sinfully small pair of red lacy panties -
“Dammit.” Alhaitham threw them into the washer as if the delicate strings were cut from flame rather than cotton, clearing his throat unnecessarily loudly in the empty room.
His fingers flexed in front of him as he thunked his wrists down against the edge of the hamper, skin tingling from the phantom sensation of worn lace brushing against his knuckles. After taking a deliberately calming breath, he reached down once more, abandoning his careful pace in favour of grabbing fistfuls at once - hoping the sheer speed would spare him from getting inappropriately caught up in Kaveh’s delicates again.
It did not.
Or; Alhaitham does Kaveh’s laundry once he moves in, then proceeds to lose his mind.

Overwhelmed by the sensation of Alhaitham’s breath against his skin, heart beating erratically, Kaveh grunted softly and tried to step over the fallen bucket - but the movement only pushed them closer, tangling their legs and trapping Alhaitham’s thigh firmly between his own.
“You’re not going to make it any bigger by squirming,” Alhaitham hissed, hand clamping down on Kaveh’s waist and holding him in place with a grip that had turned to steel.
Kaveh sucked in a sharp breath at the sudden pressure, his body reacting before his brain could catch up and sending a jolt of heat flaring beneath his skin. “I - gods, would you just -”
“Shh,” Alhaitham interrupted harshly.
“No, you shh,” Kaveh shot back in a whisper, bapping Alhaitham petulantly on the arm. “I think I can move my leg, just -”
Alhaitham exhaled a quick, frustrated huff and twisted his torso just enough to be able to slide one palm up from Kaveh’s side, tracing a distractingly firm line along his body before landing squarely over his mouth. “Shut up,” Alhaitham whispered directly into his ear, lips brushing just close enough to make the words feel like a threat.
