    Summary

Hyacine looked down at the spilled blood on the floor—perfectly good food that Phainon’s body now rejected as waste.

"Your body has tasted ambrosia," she whispered. "And now... it deems everything else to be dirt."

Phainon stared at her, the room spinning.

    "What are you saying?"

"I am saying," Hyacine said, gripping his shoulder, "that you are starving, Phainon. And I fear there is nothing in this Courtyard that can feed you."

    Summary

“Ha! Not even the King of Kremnos can defeat the Great Imperator in drinks,” Cerydra crows, slurring proudly. “I shall remain the greatest, most undefeatable in history!”

That actually gets Mydei to perk up. He sluggishly lifts his head, the movement so unsteady that Phainon’s hands shoot out to steady him by the shoulders. Mydei doesn’t even seem to notice—which is worrying. Sure, this might be an era of peace for them, but would he really let anyone touch him like this when he’s this drunk?

“Pah! Hish—history?” Mydei fires back, the word wobbling out of his mouth so badly Phainon briefly wonders how much they’ve been drinking. “I’ll—I’ll tell you about history. It starts in Cycle Zero.”

    Wait. What.

When Aglaea asked him to pick Mydei up after a drinking session with Cerydra, Phainon did not expect to hear Mydei recount all the different ways he has loved across 33 million cycles.

“I think you should keep them out for a few weeks,” Hyacine said.

    “What?”

“Your wings,” she continued, “I think folding them away isn’t helping. Each time you bring them out or put them away you put a lot of strain onto the joints.”

It wasn’t a bad idea, he knew that. It was just that… Well, his wings weren’t currently strong enough to be anything more than a pair of ornamental appendages attached to his back. A whole lot of limb currently capable of achieving nothing but getting in the way.

    “Do I have to?”

//OR, 5 times Phainon's healing wings get in the way and 1 time he feels like he's mastered them.

    Summary

“You had to go through that thirty-three times?” Tribbie asked. Her voice wobbled with unshed tears.

Phainon did the only thing possible in such a situation: He panicked.

“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”

// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.

    Summary

"It's... I think it's a ritual? Professor Anaxa said it is. He likened it to two water droplets merging into one, but that seems a bit inaccurate."

After all, if two water droplets were to fuse into a bigger droplet the sum of their size, then how would they decouple? Would it even be the exact same two water droplets if they managed to be split? Oh, but Phainon recalled a stranger analogy from Cyrene, "Maybe you can think of it as a really, really, really tight hug."

Mydeimos narrowed his eyes. "What are you spouting?"

"I'm saying that it's hard to explain."

The Month of Weaving brings along a romantic time of celebration; and thus, the topic of fusion surfaces.
