Mitsuki remembers the exact day Katsuki learned the word mine and decided it applied to everything soft, green-eyed, and freckled.
Izuku (tiny, earnest Izuku) in the sandbox is a lopsided castle with a plastic All Might flag. Katsuki stomps over, palms sparking, and plants himself in front of it like a guard dog.
“Mine,” he declares, pointing a stubby finer at the castle.
Izuku blinks up, eyes huge, and offers a shovel. “Wanna help, Kacchan?”
Katsuki’s cheeks go red. He snatches the shovel, sits, and starts digging a moat.
Mitsuki hides her laugh behind her coffee mug. Already whipped, brat.

“Kacchan, wait!” Izuku called, voice bright and breathless. “I’m gonna jump from the top of the slide this time! Just like All Might jumping off the building in episode twenty-three!”
"Deku, no!"
You see, Katsuki was five years old and already convinced that Izuku Midoriya needed full-time supervision.
When he marries him twenty years later, he does exactly that.

Katsuki didn't know it then, of course, but he would spend a lifetime learning this lesson: The greater the height, the greater the fall.
He understood some small version of it even then, when he climbed a tree too high, a wall too tall, and came home blinking back tears with blood on his shorts, busted knuckles, and knees painted with fresh scabs. But even through the pain, the adrenaline still sang in his veins. He had been higher than before. He had reached farther than before.
So he braved through the tears that remained as his mother dabbed cotton against the marks of childhood, fretting it will scar. (It's okay mother, they were the first of many to come.)

Harry glares. He opens his mouth, and feels the beginning the snake’s language pass his lips, and this isn’t what he wants, what’s the point of insulting Malfoy if he can’t understand him –
Malfoy’s eyes widen. He slaps his hand over Harry’s mouth, “Potter, what the hell–”
