Summary
Increasingly, Holland March found himself taking a backseat in his own life. He and Healy operated on equal footing during cases, but on the home front, Jackson had become much more of a competent father figure than he was.
As Holly's fourteenth birthday rolls around, Holland struggles to think of a suitable birthday present. Deep down, he already knows what it is, but well... the truth is never easy to confront.

Summary
The day Ryland Grace dies, Erid exhales. Not because it was a relief to have the Earthling gone, but because there was a quiet acceptance that there was nothing left to be done. Like any other responsible community, life on Erid carries on, albeit weightier and more somberly. Grace would be remembered for centuries as if he had just lived the day before, and that was enough for everyone.
Almost.

Summary
Ryland Grace remembers the first time he cleared his search history.
He wasn’t a rebellious deviant with an angsty preteen phase, but nonetheless, when he shakily hit the infamous ‘ERASE’ button, he felt like the worst person on earth. There weren’t even satisfactory answers to be found: every opinion piece had been contradictory, and every academic paper had words too big for him to comprehend.
“Transgender proclivities in nature examples”, he had searched.

Or, Grace helplessly finds his body detransitioning into something he is not. Rocky tries his best to help.

Summary
Sage has spent so much time with their crew that they forget that all of them are, well, mortal and fallible. Wait, they knew the fallible part, of course, but mortal? It was so easy to see their little crew as something that would last forever. That their days of bickering, shoving, pulling, fighting and laughing would fade into aching muscles, old souls and grey hairs.
Or, Sage watches their crew die. One by one.

Summary
“And now,” the Baron said, “we will go down to the slave quarters, we two. And I will watch while you, with your own hands, kill all the women in the pleasure wing.”
The Baron gives his order, and Feyd-Rautha obeys. He doesn't expect anyone to retaliate, and definitely doesn't expect himself to enjoy it.

Summary
Holland March isn't in denial. He knows he likes men, okay? And he's fine with it, really, he is. Even if he doesn't exactly act on it that often.
But being attracted to Jackson fucking Healy? His business partner, housemate, and—let's face it—best friend, who's nearly two decades older than him? The ex-bruiser who was already kind of fat before he went and broke his leg and gained like thirty more pounds on top of it?
And what does it say about March that he wants Healy even more now?
Yeah, he thinks it's understandable to have a bit of a crisis about that.
(In other words: Holland "I didn't know I was into that" March learns several things about himself when he accepts that he wants to fuck that old man.)

Summary
Healy's eyes were getting heavy. March watched it happen in real time, and felt his own heart go into a register he hadn't hit since the fire that took his wife a year and a half ago. "Hey. Hey— eyes. Look at me." He begged.
Healy squinted. "I'm lookin'." He whispered.
"You're not. You're looking at— fuck, Jackson, look at me." He got one bloody hand off the wound and onto Healy's jaw, turning his face. Healy's eyes came back slowly, unfocused, finding March's. "There he is. Hey. Hi. You gotta stay with me, okay?" March swallowed back what he was sure was a sob. "You don't get to do this. You don't get to— you shoved me, you absolute asshole, why would you—"
"You were— just standin' there," Healy said, perfectly matter-of-fact. "You always just stand there. Y'never duck. You're the only man I ever met whos— got no reflex for it at all." He sucked in a long, rattling breath. "It's a problem, March. It's a real problem. You're actin' like you wanna get shot."
--
In other words, five times Holland March watches his family get hurt, and one time they watch him get hurt.

Summary
Healy kneels and joins March on the ground, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him a little. His hands are stiff, his motions full of contained tension.
“March, you’re not thinking straight. How about we bring you home and you stop running your goddamn mouth and risk saying something you might regret once the booze wears off?”
He’s giving March an out. One last stop before he runs himself off the edge. Before he fundamentally alters the fragile and soft thing that has grown between them, the unlikely friendship they’ve tentatively built.
March could lower his head and say yeah, you’re probably right, I don’t know what I’m saying, let’s go home, oh, can you pick me up tomorrow so we can meet that new client I had on the phone earlier? He could stop his downward spiral right here and forget about tonight.
“I’ve always wanted you to fuck me,” he says instead.
------
Or, a misunderstanding after a bar fight leads March to make a drunken confession. The answer he gets is not the one he expects.
