At sixteen Wei Wuxian is—through some strange twist of fate, or a nick in the layer between parallel universes, who knows—out of the blue confronted with that one incense burner dream one night.
While his curious mind is left unable to stop poking at this new perspective on Lan Wangji, circumstances in the Cloud Recesses begin to change and Wei Wuxian is suddenly presented with life-altering opportunities.
Maybe Gusu isn’t so bad after all?
(Or alternatively: The fic where I get to give Wei Wuxian the academic scholarship he deserves while simultaneously getting him hitched early on.)

Summary
Madam Yu decides that the best way to reinstate the severed engagement between her daughter and her best friend’s son would be to publicly punish and humiliate Wei Wuxian in front of the other sects, particularly the Jin. Since he was the one who caused it to be broken, it was the least Wei Wuxian deserved, to remind him of his place. And if it also got back at her husband for allowing the engagement to be broken in the first place, she viewed that as an excellent side benefit.
Unfortunately, she hadn’t considered that other sects might actually snap up the talented disciple that she had planned to only temporarily toss aside. The consequences of that mistake are much farther-reaching than she could have ever imagined.
Canon divergent after Wei Wuxian gets sent home from the Cloud Recesses lectures after punching Jin Zixuan. Novel canon universe and characterizations.

“What?” Jin Zixuan scowls again. “Everyone thinks so.” He ducks his chin to avoid her gaze, playing with the empty bottle of wine. “I’m sure plenty of people’ve had a cut-sleeve crisis over him.”
Cut-sleeve crisis. Mianmian can barely speak she’s so happy, her eyes so wide she can feel her face stretching to accommodate them. “Jin Zixuan. Jin Zixuan. Are you saying—are you saying you’re a cut-sleeve?”
Jin Zixuan looks up, his eyebrows scrunched together. “What? No, no of course not—I’m married, I—” His cheeks turn a less painful looking shade, closer to pink than burning red. “I just—I—Lan Wangji—he—” He frowns thoughtfully at his empty bottle. “He’s special.”
Mianmian vibrates in her seat. “Heavens above,” she says, hands clenched, restraining her glee, “this is the best day. Second best day. My wedding day was pretty good. Well, my wedding night was—but today? Today is a damn good day.”Series

Summary
Wei Wuxian gets caught sneaking into Cloud Recesses.
But since he can't tell the truth - that he's just here to deliver his teacher's most recent love letter to her soulmate who's stuck in a cave - he tells a lie instead. He says that he's a Jiang disciple that had arrived late and so had snuck in through the gates. He hadn't expected the lie to work, sure that it would unravel as soon as they found a Jiang to verify it, but instead Jiang Yanli backs up his story, and even adds to it.
Which is how he ends up masquerading as the first disciple of Lotus Pier while trying to figure out how to get out of Cloud Recesses without anyone discovering that he's the disciple of Baoshan Sanren.

Does it count as surgery if the patient is a sabre/spiritual weapon? If the answer is no, then it's probably just two surgeries, no mercy kill.
Two geniuses in a radish field can come up with a lot of theories bouncing their ideas off on another, and when one is the grandmaster of demonic cultivation and the other is the best medical doctor alive, there's no telling what they can come up with. Now they just need a hospital room to put theory into practice and the Nie sect is the lucky winner. No, really, the Nie Sect lucks out and life gets better for everyone.
