“Oh, well, I was lookin’ for something.” Kenny raised an eyebrow and Butters, prompted to go on with his explanation, continued. “Well, see, mom ‘n dad were fighting and when I tried to make ‘em stop, dad got real mad and left and mom said I just opened a can of worms, but I didn’t have any worms at all, so I thought I’d go get a can of ‘em for her ‘n open it. But worms’re harder to find than I thought.”
Kenny stared at Butters for a long moment, torn as to whether laugh or pity the guy. “Butters, you know that’s an expression, right?”
Or: Kenny leaves the house after a fight with his dad. He runs into Butters being an absolutely adorable idiot.

Summary

"I'll pay you no mind unless you're a good tool in the moment. I'll use you. Forget it ever happned. Rinse and repeat. Just like always," he explains.
"That's not what you did, though," she mutters under her breath like she's praying something will hear her and drill it into Jax's head on her behalf. "That's not what you did."

After their fallout, Pomni notices Jax is struggling and isolating himself more. Every attempt to approach him just leads to encounters with increasingly concerning behaviors.
The two, after running into each other, accidentally find a certain, unknown bug in this purgatory game. What appears to have just been visual actually caused them to find something that gave them a lot more control than they used to.

Jax and Pomni glitch themselves into a discovery by pure chance. They agree to keep it a secret until they can fully understand its purpose.
This only ends up showing Pomni first-hand the true state of a certain someone's mental wellbeing, and just how willing they are to do something drastic.
