“Oh thank God,” Marcy breathes. Somewhere in the vicinity of the call she can hear what sounds like a struggle. Someone yells and another person screams in pain. “We, uh, we need you to come in. Like, as fast as you can.”
Anne blinks.
“Marcy, you know that I don’t do that,” she starts, “We’ve been over this. Your work stays at work and I’m not getting involved with it just because your boss thinks-”
Marcy growls in frustration and something behind her in the call shrieks. The sound is eerily familiar and the goosebumps running up Anne’s spine can’t seem to decide why.
“What the fuck is that?!”
“That!” Marcy growls, “Is why I need you here. Goddamnit, Anne, they found her!”
Anne is still lost.
“Found who?!”
“Sasha!”
____Of fantasy worlds you could fall into from your own, some are nicer than others. Even still, most of them aren't The Backrooms.

That voice. The one she heard calling to her down the street about ditching her studies and letting loose for a few hours, the beautiful sarcasm in it whenever she got a little too into her info dumps, the hard edge when someone had foolishly decided to pick on either her or Anne. It was colder, devoid of the buttery smooth tone, and the pitch was lower and more resolved.
But it was her, wasn't it?

Sasha let out a growl and lunged, catching the creature, whatever it was, by its hood. She wasn't about to let it get away, not without a fight.
"Get over here!"
The hood comes down, but before she can get a good look at it, something slams against the side of Sasha's face. Her hand is still in the hood, though, and so they go down together. A body landing atop Sasha's and pressing her into the dirt. Something presses against her throat-- probably the same thing that hit her in the face-- and she's forced to look up into the eyes of her attacker or risk getting her wind-pipe crushed like a twig.
"Anne?!" She wheezes.
"GRAAH!" Anne snarls, pupils the size of pinpricks.

Anne never makes it to Wartwood. At least, not on her own.

Or:
Sasha's old injury flares up again on the first night of their reunion. She's reluctant to tell Anne and Marcy about it and ruin the good mood. But it's hard to keep quiet about stuff like this when you're in pain, especially with the people who know you better than anyone else.

Catra suddenly laughs, because what is she doing? She’s a closeted lesbian who hasn’t spoken to her family in years because of it, she’s struggling financially through grad school, she lives in a shitty apartment, and she’s just, essentially, offered to help a ghost figure out how to be a ghost.
But the hopeful look in Adora’s eyes is still there, and she’s wearing the first genuine smile Catra’s ever seen on her, and she’s almost blindsided by how beautiful Adora is.
So Catra nods and says, “yeah. I’ll help you figure it out,” because really, how hard can it be?
(Really, she has no idea what she’s getting herself into.)
