Summary
“Are you okay?” Eddie asks again, words drawn out to make sure Steve understands his question, but not like he’s stupid. Gentle understanding suffuses each word.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.”
“Not what I asked.” Eddie steps closer, and Steve turns again, putting his back to the door. They stand next to each other, arms just inches from touching, and Steve exhales harshly. On his next inhale he catches the scent of leather and roses, covered over with cheap soap and cigarette smoke. “Do you wanna talk about it?” Eddie asks.
“Not really…” Talking about it is the last thing Steve wants, but he also wants to keep standing in Eddie’s space and sharing his air.

Summary
Bumped to the lowest step on the social ladder after his fight with Billy, Steve gets roped in with the cheer team. What starts as a favor to help them out when one member breaks her leg in turn for protection from the brunt of the bullying, sets the universe on a different path.
He befriends Chrissy and grows as thick as thieves with her. Over the summer he adds Robin to his friends as well. Meanwhile Eddie seems to have taken an interest in the fallen king, but Steve can’t figure out quite yet why Eddie is talking with him. Flirting with him?
AKA a rewrite from after season 2 till after season 4 where Chrissy survives and Steve and Eddie get together that explores Steve's fall to the bottom of the social ladder and the what if he was gay and knew.

“Have you ever wanted to be invisible?” Steve asked, looking out at the sheer cliffs on the other side of the quarry. It was a thought he’d held onto for a while, letting it form mostly in the early hours of the morning when he was alone in the dark.
“You mean like a superhero and shit?” Eddie asked, blowing out smoke and taking another drag from his cigarette.

When Steve presents, his parents force him out of the house, changing everything about his life and subsequently the future of Hawkins. In the mean time, Steve learns how to be loved. -

“Whazup?” he mumbled, lifting his head off the pillow and blinking in the darkness.
“Shhh, it’s fine,” replied Mike’s soft voice, breaking through the stillness that had followed Will’s muffled question, “I’ve got this one. You can go back to sleep.”
Mike and Will take turns staying up with Holly, who has begun to have nightmares about the monsters in Hawkins. Things take a curiously domestic turn.
