Summary
In the same day, approximately two weeks ago, Spencer met and lost the first person he truly considered his match. He loved her, and she may have known that, but he could not speak it into existence when he needed to. This morning he wakes and grapples with coming to terms with the true tragedy that is loss.
“For the first time this morning, he actually feels some semblance of warmth. Among the nondescript mess of his neglected apartment, a benevolent heat is emanating from the single most valuable possession he owns right now: The Narrative of John Smith.”

Summary
"All parents damage their children. It cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair." - Mitch Albom
Coming to terms with the fact that his mother has Alzheimer's is hard enough for Spencer. Coming to terms with the fact that he can't fix it is exponentially harder. No matter what else has gone on in his life up until this point, there were some classifiers that always applied to him: Genius. Boy wonder. The kid who will save the world. Son of Diana Reid. What is he supposed to do when those things don't fit? And, more importantly, if he's not those things...what is he?

Summary
Reid wasn't the only one who enjoyed his research, so when Hotch learns there may be more to Spencer than meets the eye, he decides to present his findings to Gideon. For some reason, his boss doesn't seem to agree.
---
Hotch shook his head. "No, that's not what I'm referring to. There wasn't anything in his file regarding a diagnosis of Asperger's Disorder, so I wasn't sure if that had been waived from his file, too. I'm sure higher-ups wouldn't be thrilled that someone with Autism was in the FBI, given-"
"Autism?" Gideon repeated, holding his hands up. "Agent Hotchner, Spencer Reid isn't autistic."

Summary
“When did you shoot up?”
“How do you know I shot up?” Reid muttered.
Hotchner let go of the younger man’s right arm, and pushed up his left sleeve. Reid jerked against the firm hold in protest, but the evidence was clear as day, the track marks that dotted the crook of his arm like little bits of reddish silk.
