Work Header

been here a long time, baby (i hope i make it through the night)

Summary:

“Fuck, Cait,” Vi cursed. “Tell me what you’re wearing. Slowly.”

“T-shirt and shorts,” Caitlyn replied.

A beat of silence.

“No underwear?”

Caitlyn didn’t reply.

OR, caitlyn and vi are too horny for a long distance relationship.

Work Text:

“So…” Caitlyn said slowly. “I have some news, and I’m not sure if it’s good or bad.”

Vi looked up from where she sat, sitting crisscrossed across from Cait on the couch. She stopped mid-bite, chewing on her cheeseburger. She blinked. “What?”

  Caitlyn only cleared her throat.

They had finished up a big midterm and gotten fast food on their way home, ready to crash on the couch and eat crappy food and watch equally crappy TV. A takeout bag and greasy wrappers littered the coffee table as she reached over and picked up the remote, putting Hell’s Kitchen on mute.

She turned back to her girlfriend. “What is it?”

Caitlyn stared down at her fries, feet folded neatly under her. “You remember that internship Mel told me about?”

Vi furrowed her eyebrows, gulping down another bite of her burger. “The fancy ass one? Yeah, I remember. You wouldn’t stop talking about it.”

Caitlyn’s cheeks turned a pale shade of pink. “I don’t recall that.”

“Well, yeah,” Vi muttered, putting down the greasy wrapper. “Don’t worry. You’re cute when you ramble.”

Caitlyn flushed fiercely, but cleared her throat. “Right.” She paused to clear her throat again. “So, I applied last week and…”

Vi raised her eyebrows, preparing for either good or bad news. However, she was hoping for good news. If those suckers didn’t want Caitlyn working with them, they were missing out.

“I got accepted,” Caitlyn finished slowly, a small smile beginning to unfurl on her lips.

Vi grinned. She immediately leaned over and planted a kiss on her girlfriend’s temple, humming. “Duh.”

Caitlyn raised an eyebrow, laughing. “Duh?”

“Duh,” Vi repeated. “They’d be crazy if they didn’t pick you. You’re smart, determined, and super hot—”

Caitlyn let out another laugh and playfully shoved her away. “Okay, that’s enough,” she said, rolling her eyes. “I’m trying to have a serious conversation here. Keep it in your pants.”

Vi held two fingers to her forehead, mock saluting. “Yes, Ma’am.”

Caitlyn rolled her eyes again, but leaned in and captured Vi’s lips against her own. Vi let out a satisfied sound, melting into her warmth. When they pulled away, Caitlyn had her nose wrinkled.

“What?” Vi asked, holding back a laugh.

“Your breath smells like pickles,” Caitlyn replied, narrowing her eyes. “And grease.”

“I know,” Vi sighed. “I’m irresistible. Just try to keep your hands off me.”

  Caitlyn grinned. “I’ll try.”

Vi laughed and kissed her again, a quick peck that made Caitlyn push her away again. They both finally settled against each other, collapsing on the back of the couch. Caitlyn dropped her head onto Vi’s shoulder, and Vi inhaled her scent—her shampoo and laundry detergent. Not missing a beat, Vi pressed a kiss to her hairline, tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear.

“Seriously, though,” Vi said, breath tickling Caitlyn’s temple. “I’m proud of you, Cait. This’ll be good.”

“Yeah…” Caitlyn trailed off, biting her lip. “It’s a great opportunity.”

Vi frowned, noticing her reluctance. She tilted her head to look Cait in the eye. “But?”

“This internship is competitive, and this firm is really great, one of the best,” Caitlyn went on. “And I’m lucky to have gotten it—”

  “Cait,” Vi interjected. “What’s wrong?”

Caitlyn sighed, a heavy sound that was partially muffled by Vi’s neck and shoulder. “I’ll have to leave town.”

Vi raised both eyebrows this time, sitting up straighter. “What?”

“For the internship, I mean,” Caitlyn clarified, biting her lip again. “For two weeks.”

Vi nodded, following along. “Alright,” she said. “How far away?”

“It’s about a two-hour drive,” Caitlyn replied, face pinched. “I’ve already looked at hotels. There’s one not too far from the office. It might be pricey, but I think this experience will be well worth it—”

“I think you should do it,” Vi blurted.

Caitlyn sat up, blinking. She turned to face Vi. “Really?”

“You said it yourself,” Vi continued. “The experience would be worth it. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work in law.”

“Yeah,” Caitlyn agreed, the corner of her mouth perking up. “It is.”

“So what’s stopping you?” Vi asked, narrowing her eyes. “You seem… reluctant.”

“Packing up and going to a new city alone for two weeks seems kind of daunting,” Caitlyn admitted, dropping her head back onto Vi’s waiting shoulder. “That’s all.”

“Please,” Vi snorted. “You’re not that easily scared.”

Caitlyn frowned, flashing Vi an annoyed look. “Fine.” She sighed, voice muffled in Vi’s shirt.  “I just didn’t want to leave you.”

  “Would you repeat that?”

Caitlyn groaned. She lifted her head and looked Vi straight in the eyes. “I said I didn’t want to leave you.”

Vi was already grinning. “You really can't be without me for two weeks, huh?”

Caitlyn was already moving away, rolling her eyes. “Oh, I knew this was a bad idea—”

Vi grabbed her by the wrist, gently pulling her back. “No, no,” she said. “You should go. I want you to, and I know you do too.”

Caitlyn stared at her for a second, and then sighed again. “I do,” she admitted.

“And it’s only two weeks,” Vi said.

  “It is,” Cait agreed.

“And I’ll call you every night, okay? And I’ll read you a bedtime story—”

Caitlyn hit her softly on the shoulder. “Violet.”

Vi laughed and wrapped that same arm around her, drawing her in. “For the record,” she said. “I’ll miss you, too.”

She turned to look at Vi, buried in the crook of her neck. “You will?”

“Yep,” Vi replied, popping the p. “But not as much as you’ll miss me.”

Caitlyn cursed under her breath and untethered herself from Vi, who only laughed again. She leaned against the back of the couch and crossed her arms, giving Vi a sly look. “Are you sure it won’t be the other way around?”

“Whatever do you mean, Miss Kiramman?” Vi asked, quirking an eyebrow.

“How will you survive without stealing my phone and ordering DoorDash?”

“I guess I’ll survive the old-fashioned way,” Vi muttered. “Actually going to the restaurant.” She shrugged. “Or ramen. Jinx has a whole box. I think I’m set.” She then squinted. “Or I’ll just actually cook, I guess.”

“So you have food,” Caitlyn said slowly. “But what about other matters?”

Vi blinked. “What the fuck are you talking about, Cait?”

Caitlyn fixed her with a knowing look, lips curled at the corners. The look that gave Vi a twinge in her lower stomach. Oh.

“Are you suggesting that we can’t go two weeks without sex?” Vi blurted, a little offended, and maybe a little turned on. “You can’t leave because of that?”

“I’m not saying that,” Caitlyn said. She fiddled with the chain of her necklace. “I’m just saying it’ll be lonely in that hotel room. I’ll be all alone in that bed, and my mind will start to wander—”

“Oh, come on,” Vi groaned. “You’re not even gone, and I already miss you.”

Caitlyn smirked against her. “I’ll think of you every day, and I’ll call every night—”

  “Oh,” Vi moaned. “Fuck you.”

“I’m trying,” Caitlyn replied, still smiling, still there, thigh brushing against Vi’s.

  Vi’s pulse stuttered. “Oh, hell—”

And then Caitlyn was kissing her, long and hard.

I’ll get it out of my system now, Vi thought as Caitlyn pressed against her, searching, seeking. She gave into the push and pull, the pulse of it all. And then I can go two weeks without it. Without her.

Then Cait slotted a knee between her legs, pressing and pressing, and Vi’s thoughts went blank.

Maybe Caitlyn was right. She had been gone for two days, and Vi might actually go insane.

She did her usual routine. She got up, went to class, went to the gym, came home, did her homework, and went to bed. But it was… weird. Quiet. No one to wake up next to. No one to eat breakfast with or giggle with while brushing teeth. No coffee runs or late-night talks.

Vi has gotten used to falling asleep next to someone almost every night. Her own bed felt insufficient. It felt small and cold.

She kept herself busy. She had her portion of a group project to work on and an essay to outline, so she took her time in the library after class. It was dark by the time she finished, and she drove home, almost making the turn to go to Cait’s on instinct. She picked up dinner on her way home from the usual Chinese place down the street and ate with Ekko and Jinx.

It was nice eating with them again. Being at Cait’s half the time, and given the two’s rather odd sleep schedules, she barely saw them these days. They got into a rather intense Mario Kart competition and then cleaned up after said Mario Kart competition led to a bowl of noodles mysteriously spilling all over the floor.

That was when Vi retired to bed. She showered, taking her time, coming back into her room while drying her hair with a towel. She flicked on the light and looked around. Her room was a mess, to put it lightly. She had barely been in here lately.

Frowning, she pulled on some sweats and a random t-shirt and got to work. She tidied up her desk and stuffed dirty clothes into the hamper, telling herself she would do laundry tomorrow. A few minutes later, she collapsed onto the bed, a bit breathless. She was still sprawled across her bed when she got it. She dizzily lifted her head up, half-distracted by the soft buzz of her phone. The notification lit up the screen. A photo from Cait.

She opened it, expecting something flirty. What she got was Cait, lips parted in a smirk, shirt tugged up just enough to show the edge of her black lace underwear, fingers glistening, resting suggestively on her thigh.

Her breath caught, heart racing. Suddenly, she was a lot more breathless.

A second later, her phone buzzed again. A message.

Wish these were your fingers instead.

Vi didn’t hesitate. She hit call.

“Jesus, Cait,” she breathed when the line connected. “You’re trying to kill me.”

On the other end, Cait’s voice came like silk and sin. “I was starting to think you were ignoring me.”

“I wasn’t ignoring you,” Vi breathed. “I was trying not to combust.”

A soft laugh, then Caitlyn murmured, “You should hear what I sound like now.”

Vi’s voice dropped. “Put the phone on speaker. Now.”

“Put the phone on speaker. Now.”

Caitlyn smiled to herself, obeying. She pressed the button and laid back, head meeting the pillow with a soft plop. She let out a content sigh, eyes fluttering shut momentarily.

“Where are you?” Vi asked instantly.

“Hotel room,” Caitlyn replied, then swallowed. “Alone,” she added.

“Oh?” Vi asked, the question evident in the voice. There was a shuffling in her end, like she was getting into bed herself. “Where in your room exactly?”

“Lying in bed,” she replied. She yawned. “Long day.”

  “Yeah?” Vi asked. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. I just miss you,” Caitlyn whispered, her fingers tracing idle shapes on her bare stomach, her shirt rolled up to just under her breasts. She had showered and changed into comfortable clothes the moment she got back from work.

“I miss you more,” Vi replied, voice husky through the speaker. “What are you doing right now?”

“Lying here,” Caitlyn said. Her palm pressed against her lower belly, feeling the heat building there, slowly burning. Each flame ignited each time she heard Vi’s voice, each time she imagined her lips forming words, mouthing her name. “Thinking about your hands.”

There was a pause. Cait smiled, pressing her thighs together. She knew that silence. Vi was trying to keep it together.

“Yeah?” Vi finally said. “What are my hands doing?”

“Mmm,” Caitlyn hummed, shifting on the sheets. “One’s wrapped around my throat. The other’s between my thighs.”

“Fuck, Cait,” Vi cursed. “Tell me what you’re wearing. Slowly.”

“Just a T-shirt and shorts,” Caitlyn replied, fiddling with her necklace. “Why?”

  A beat of silence.

  “No underwear?”

  Caitlyn didn’t reply.

Vi took that as an answer. She cursed again. “Fuck, Cait,” she said. “You’re so needy, calling me like this. Couldn’t wait, could you?”

“I just,” Caitlyn took a moment and inhaled deeply, shakily. She played with the waistband of her shorts absentmindedly. “I needed to hear your voice.”

Vi chuckled. “Are you touching yourself, or just thinking about me doing it?”

Caitlyn smirked, adjusting her grip on the phone. “So what if I am?”

Put your hand between your legs,” Vi suddenly commanded. “Yeah, right there. What do you feel?”

Caitlyn let out a low hum, hands sliding down her stomach, down, down, down. Her fingers rubbed a careful circle over her shorts, breathing getting heavier. Her groin throbbed, a wet sensation already between her legs. She thumbed over the growing damp spot, holding back her curse.

Only Vi could do this to her.

“Describe what you’re doing,” Vi breathed, voice heavy. “ All of it.”

Cait bit her lip, her other hand slipping down beneath the waistband of her shorts. “You’re not even here, and I’m already soaked for you.”

A shaky breath from the other end. “Take your shorts off.”

  “Say please,” Caitlyn countered.

Vi groaned. “You’re such a brat.”

Cait rolled her eyes. “Only for you.”

She kicked the shorts off with a lazy grin, discarding them on the end of the bed. She spread her legs just enough that the cool air made her gasp. She didn’t tell Vi that part. She let her hear it.

  “Touch yourself,” Vi ordered.

“Bossy,” Caitlyn teased, but obeyed slowly. “God, I wish you were here.”

“Me too,” Vi said, a little breathless now. “I’d have you on your knees. Begging.”

“I don’t beg,” Cait whispered, then moaned softly. “Okay. Maybe for you.”

There was a beat of silence, then Vi murmured, “I want to hear everything. Don’t hold back tonight.”

  And Caitlyn didn’t.

“Vi,” Caitlyn whispered through the speaker, clutching her phone tighter.

“Tell me where you want me. Use your words, baby.”

“I want you to touch me,” Cait whimpered. “I wish—”

“Slide your fingers in,” Vi rasped, cutting her off. “ Pretend they’re mine.”

“Okay,” Caitlyn said. She nodded. “Okay.”

She could hear Vi’s smile in her voice. “Good girl.”

  Caitlyn nearly whimpered again.

She pressed the phone between her shoulder and ear to free up both hands. She let her hands wander, roaming the way Vi’s hands did. She let them ghost over her chest, her stomach, lingering over her hips. Her fingers trailed down her stomach, skittering over her navel. She pulled her shirt up, lifting one corner, and pinched at a pebble nipple with the other. She tugged, gasping into the phone.

While she touched herself, she imagined other hands, hands that weren’t her own. They were larger, rougher, and more calloused. They were sacrilegious and reverent, both rough and gentle. Sinful and divine.

Caitlyn leaned back against her pillows, phone pressed to her ear. Her voice was a low murmur, velvet and heat. “You still there?”

Vi’s breath crackled softly through the speaker. “Yeah… yeah, I’m here.”

Caitlyn smiled, just a little wickedly. She let her fingers glide up her stomach, slow and deliberate, and then she brought two to her lips. There was a quiet, slick sound as she licked them, slow and intentional, just loud enough for the mic to catch.

  Vi inhaled sharply. “Cait…”

“Mmm,” Caitlyn purred, drawing a circle on her thigh. “You hear that?” She didn’t wait for a reply before whispering, “That’s the sound of you not being here.”

And then she slid her fingers down, just where she needed them, with a soft, breathless sigh. She let out a quiet moan when her fingers finally slipped under. Finally, she teased at her entrance, feeling the wetness there, arousal dripping onto the sheets under her. She clenched her thighs harder, inhaling sharply, nostrils flaring.

   God. She needed Vi.

She gasped when she slipped inside herself, two fingers spreading her open. Pushing, tugging. The gasp was loud enough for Vi to hear. She squeezed her eyes shut, hearing the heavy breathing on the other side, and awaited her next words.

There was rustling on the other side, like the sliding of sheets. “Are you touching yourself, pretty girl?”

She managed to let out a choked sound.

“What would you do if I were behind you right now, hands on your hips?” Vi suddenly asked, tone heavy, more serious. There was an unspoken edge to it, a certain desperation.

  She was touching herself, too.

A new jolt went through Caitlyn, lightning shooting up her spine. Heat festered in her lower belly, burning a hole there. She bit her lip, trying to cover her moan, but failed. “Violet.”

“I want you to say my name when you come,” Vi said, now panting. “Loud.”

Caitlyn arched back into the bed, moaning softly, just enough to tease. She kept her legs spread, even though it was hard not to squirm.

“How many?” Vi asked, voice low.

  “T-two,” Caitlyn managed.

“Mm,” Vi hummed. “That’s it. Take it.” Vi’s own voice was muffled, like she was holding herself back. “So good for me.”

Cait closed her eyes again, eyelashes fluttering. She let herself lay back, sinking into the pillows behind her, the mattress under her like quicksand, sheets tangling around her now bare legs. She fell into a rhythm, that wonderful pressure building in the pits of her belly. Her back arched, spine curved, hips bucking instinctively. Another swipe, another tease, and her lips twisted, imagining the hand between her legs was actually, really Vi’s.

Caitlyn tilted her head back. Right there, right there, don’t stop—”

“Make yourself come thinking about my mouth,” Vi said quietly, slowly. Tauntingly. “You remember how it felt, don’t you?”

That put her over the edge.

“Wish you were here…” Caitlyn groaned. “Wish it was your hands.”

Her hips rocked, rutting against her own fingers. The phone was still tucked between her shoulder and ear. Vi’s pants and groans were like music to her ears, edging her on. Her hand clenched around the phone, trembling as she neared release.

“Are you close?” Vi asked, winded. “Don’t come yet. Not until I say.”

  “Vi,” she gasped. “Please.”

A chuckle. “You sound so good like this, babe.”

Her eyes rolled back. “Oh, God, Vi—”

“Don’t stop,” she instructed. “I want to hear you lose it.”

“It feels so good… I’m gonna—fuck—” Caitlyn cursed, biting down on her lip hard enough to draw blood. She brought a palm to her mouth, attempting to muffle her moan.

   “Cait.”

Caitlyn whimpered into the phone, her breath ragged. “Please, Vi—just let me—”

“No.” Vi’s voice was low and firm, the kind that slid down Caitlyn’s spine like silk and steel. “Not yet.”

Cait froze, her fingers hovering right where she needed them most. “Violet—”

“I said no.” There was a pause, then a soft hum. “You don’t get to come just because you’re desperate. You wait. For me.”

Caitlyn groaned, pressing her thighs together, frustrated and aching. “You’re being cruel,” she whispered.

“No,” Vi snapped. “I want to hear you. Let me hear you.”

Her back arched again, hips stuttering as the pleasure hit. She gasped. “I can’t hold it—”

“Then come for me,” Vi said. “That’s it. Be good.”

  Caitlyn inhaled sharply.

   “My good girl.”

Her hands clutched at the sheets under her as her body tensed. She bit her lip to keep but crying out too loud, but let out a choked moan, hand moving faster as she unraveled. She was shaking and gasping, breath catching as her climax rolled through, and could do Vi was doing the same on the other line. She collapsed against the bed, sinking further in, chest heaving with every breath.

“You’re mine,” Vi was murmuring. “Even from miles away. Say it.”

“I’m yours,” Caitlyn gasped, and nearly came again. She found herself whispering Vi’s name over and over again like a prayer. “Violet. Violet.”

“I’m here, babe,” she replied, just as breathless as Caitlyn. “I’m still here.”

She gripped the phone tighter, fingers trembling. With her other hand, she rubbed herself through the aftershocks. They left the line quiet for a beat, both of them just breathing together.

“That was... wow. Are you okay? Still alive?” Vi asked after a minute.

  Caitlyn smiled softly. “Still alive.”

She could feel Vi’s smirk on the phone. “If that’s what you can do with your voice, I’m scared of what happens when I see you again.” A pause. “God, I miss you. I love hearing you like that.”

  Caitlyn raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

“Yeah, I should record that next time,” Vi said. She sighed. “You sounded so pretty when you came.”

  Caitlyn’s jaw fell open. “Vi!”

“Are you blushing right now?” Vi teased. “You totally are.”

“I’m not,” Caitlyn retorted. She rolled onto her side, still naked from the waist down. Her eyes caught the alarm clock on the bedside table. They widened at the number shown in red, blocky font. “Shit.”

Vi shifted on the other side, the sheets rustling around her. “Cait? What is it?”

“It’s late,” Caitlyn muttered. “And I have to be up early tomorrow.”

“Go to sleep, babe,” Vi replied. “You earned it.”

  “I did?”

“Mhm,” Vi hummed. “Knock ‘em dead.”

  Caitlyn laughed. “I will.”

“And just know I’ll be thinking of you.”

  “You will?”

  “All day,” Vi supplied.

“All day?” Caitlyn asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

“All day,” Vi confirmed. “I’ll be thinking about you and that stupid button-up shirt. God, I want to undo the buttons with my teeth and—”

“Vi!” Caitlyn barked into the phone, cheeks still on fire.

There was laughter on the other end of the line. “Goodnight, Cait.” A brief pause. “I love you.”

She shook her head, but there was a warm feeling on her chest. “I love you, too. Goodnight.”

“Next time, I’m not letting you touch yourself,” Vi said. “I’ll do it for you.”

   And then she hung up.

Caitlyn blinked, surprised. How was she supposed to sleep after that? She just laid there for a moment, chest rising and falling, skin still flushed with the heat of it. Her fingers glistened. Her thighs were a mess.

   She smirked.

Grabbing her phone, she angled it just right—bare skin, tangled sheets, and the unmistakable evidence of exactly what Vi had done to her from miles away.

  Click.

She attached the photo to a message, then typed something and hit send. Seconds later, the read receipt popped up. Then three dots and a new text message.

  Caitlyn grinned and texted back.
