Temporal Tale

Summary:

The main cast of Undertale finally made it out of the Underground... But... something seems strange, especially to Frisk. Where is everyone? Where is humanity? How will the monsters be able to live on the surface? What is... going on?

A Vintage Story x Undertale Crossover

Notes:

So this is the first time I'm writing a fan-fic, like, ever. And it's about Undertale and Vintage Story, which are two of my main hyperfixations, though the latter has been one for a good while now. Honestly, the idea just spawned in my head one day, but then I thought that I could lowkey cook something up with this and I just decided to sit down and write. I first put it up on Wattpad, but I also want to put it up on here ^^

I don't have much to say for now, I hope you can digest my writing style :)

No, one more thing, my native language isn't English, so I apologize for errors in advance!

Chapter 1: Limonite detected

Chapter Text

Disclaimer: Undertale and Vintage Story are not my properties and I am just a fan of both games, writing a silly fanfic about a crossover of them.

Now, onto the events...

---------------

August 24th, Year 2, 18:30

Well, would you look at that! At long last! Limonite readings. I've been looking for ages. Too bad I won't be able to pick up on these readings for today though, it's starting to get late. I need to get home. Funny how much I've found before I got my first iron readings. Halite, Ilmenite, Pentlandite... and some other stuff I can't recall right now.

In a forest near a mountain, a Seraph has been desperately on the search for the sought-after iron ore. Through many caves and cliffsites, they have been prospecting for the various types of iron ores, but to no avail... Until now. This marks a significant day for this year, but for more reasons than one that the Seraph thinks at the moment.

I can't wait to get my hands on that sweet stuff. If I remember correctly, most iron veins are contained in gigantic discs, right? That single vein should be able to quench my needs for more iron veins for quite some time, I hope. Well, I suppose I at least am still rich in copper and tin, eh? Ah. There I go talking to myself here. I might as well continue this yap...

...

Great, now I don't know what to think about. I really wish I hadn't settled down so far away from that Treasure Hunter. What was his name again? Hans, right? Yes, mind, it's Hans, we know. What am I thinking? There is no we. Only I. Me. Me and the animals. Me and the animals and these horrific creatures from the other world. People? Civilisation? I only know of some traders, whose names' I've actually forgotten about. Sigh. I really need some companionship. The animals at my home are not a replacement for that.

Suddenly, some wolves have decided to howl in the distance.

Oh, and especially not these. Definitely not these. Sometimes... I wonder why they specifically target me so much. One of the traders I asked about what the damn deal with the wolves and bears is, looked at me like I'm spouting nonsense. Are they... not going after them as much? I wish I could have at least gotten a proper answer from that. Maybe I was a bit too... stingy with my demeanour? Only more and more questions, but no answers that I can deliver to myself. I should really get a move on.

Once I get my grasp on some of that iron, I hope I will finally be able to safely make it to that large ruin that the treasure hunter located. It should be- huh?

Suddenly, some unfamiliar sets of footsteps were able to be registered by the Seraph. Seemingly, they were coming from the mountain nearby. But not from up there, more near the foot of it specifically. The Seraph decided to take a hiding spot in the bushes near a clearing in the forest. They anticipated the sounds to travel to that spot. Just after they settled down in that bush, they could swear they were able to make out vague voices from a distance. Just to be safe, or at least to feel safe, they put on their mask. It's a malefactor mask.

"Oh my..." Toriel gasped.

"Isn't it beautiful, everyone?" Asgore continued.

"Wow.. It's e-even better than on TV! WAY better! Better than I ever imagined!" Alphys muttered out.

"Frisk, you LIVE with this?! The sunlight is so nice... and the air is so fresh! I really feel alive!" Undyne joyfully announced.

"HEY SANS... WHAT'S THAT GIANT BALL?"

"we call that "the sun", my friend"

"THAT'S THE SUN!? WOWIE!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M FINALLY MEETING THE SUN!!!"

"I could stand here and watch this for hours..." Asgore told.

"Yes, it is beautiful, is it not? But we should really think about what comes next" Toriel proceeded.

"Oh, right. Everyone... This is the beginning of a bright new future. An era of peace between humans and monsters. Frisk... I have something to ask of you. Will you act as our ambassador to the humans?" Asgore proclaimed.

"Well... Since I'm the human who knows the most about everyone of you... sure." Frisk complied.

"YEAH! FRISK WILL BE THE BEST AMBASSODOR! AND I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS... WILL BE THE BEST MASCOT! I'LL GO MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION!"

Papyrus begins to walk down the mountain.

"welp. someone's gotta keep him from getting into trouble. see you guys"

Sans walks back into the underground, for now.

"Man, do I have to do EVERYTHING? Papyrus, wait!!!"

Undyne tries to catch up to Papyrus.

"Hey, Undyne!! Wait up!!"

Alphys runs after them.

An awkward but short silence erupts.

"Whoops."

More silence, from Asgore.

"Uh, should I do something?"

Toriel sends him a stern side glare.

"Well, gotta go!"

Asgore walks down the mountain as well.

"It seems that everyone is quite eager to set off."

After taking a final look into the sunset, Toriel turns to Frisk.

"Frisk... You came from this world, right...? So you must have a place to return to, do you not? What will you do now?"

After taking a slightly concerned look at the landscape upon them, they face Toriel.

"I... want to stay with you. I... have my reasons as to why..."

"What? Frisk! You really are a funny child. If you had said that earlier, none of this would have happened. It is a good thing you took so long to change your mind. Hee hee hee. Well... If you really do not have any other place to go... I will do my best to take care of you, for as long as you need. All right? Now, come along. Everyone is waiting for us."

And so, Toriel took Frisk's hand and both began to walk down the mountain too at last.

...

"HEY UNDYNE! DO YOU THINK HUMANS ALSO LOOK SO DIVERSE LIKE US? I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM!"

"Slow down a bit or someone might fall down, fuhuhuhu!"

"I HAVE TO SAY, THESE HUMANS SURE DIDN'T MAKE THE PATH DOWN HERE VERY SAFE! NO SAFETY REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN HERE!"

Indeed there are no regulations on the path down the mountain. One might even say, there isn't really a path down there, just an optimal route through the rough, rocky terrain.

At last, the landscape gradually gives away to some grassland, then to shrubland and down to the forests at last.

"Uh, maybe we should slow down a bit? Not that I don't mind, but the others don't seem to be catching up as quickly." Undyne pointed out.

"THE CLEARING OVER THERE SEEMS TO BE A GOOD MEETING PLACE!"

"Do you smell this Papyrus? The forests up here smell way more intense than down there around Snowdin. And the sun covering everything in this orange color... Man, we've been missing out on some good stuff!"

Little do they know they are being watched from the shrubs at the edge of the clearing. The Seraph has equipped themselves with tin bronze lamellae armor, minus a head piece, and is currently clutching nervously their right hand on the handle of their tin bronze spear.

Just, what are these creatures..? They certainly don't seem like those... abominations from the other world. These ones look... kind of friendly in some way. Even that... living skeleton...?

At least compared to the drifters and the other lot. No. They are completely different. Just look at them. They can talk, have all these facial expressions and enjoy themselves... like people. Yes. They're mostly like people. What should I do? Should I approach them? I'm... unsure how they will react. Based on their conversation, they don't seem like they're from around here. Maybe from the North...? There is no use in thinking much about possible scenarios here. I can't die after all, if they kill me, I'll just wait until they've wandered off. Yeah, just go out and-

"W-wait for me!" a nervous voice muttered out behind them.

"Everyone of you wait where you are! Toriel and Frisk should be here soon! We should stick together" Asgore exclaimed.

"hi guys" Sans chimed in.

What is going on?! More of them are coming... Wait... this big one over there... He is wearing a crown...? Royalty? He said they're still waiting for some people. I'll just wait until they come down there and THEN come out. Yeah... I wonder what they were doing up there... Questions for later.

Further possible thoughts and conversations were abruptly stopped by shrieking and clicking sounds from the forest that were slowly coming nearby.

Ah, hondsdrek! A shiver. It's getting really late huh? 19:00 already.

"W-what was t-that?" the lizard asked in a startled tone.

Suddenly, a mangled figure came out of the leafy walls of the forest. Before any further reactions have visibly taken place, it started to flank to the side and twitch around uncontrollably.

"Excuse me, is everything alright over there?" is what Asgore managed to blurt out.

What are you people doing?! Run away or attack! This thing will try to turn every single one of you into mincemeat! Why are you so clueless...?

After Asgore's speech, the shiver suddenly jolted up and began facing the monster group.

Undyne took a step forward, with a weirded out face. "Hey punk, what's with you? Are you a monster from the underground? How did you get down here so fast?"

The shiver then began walking on all four of its legs towards the group and started speeding up. In a moment's notice, its 2-way split mouth opened up, ready to take a bite out of one of them.

"What the-"

Before any more words came out of her mouth, it leaped towards Undyne, to which she managed to dodge the onslaught. To counter further attacks, she readied herself with a magically constructed spear and assumed a defensive position.

"Back off! NOW!"

Unsurprisingly to the Seraph, it did not listen to reason and tried to take a stance to jump her yet again.

Shit, shit shit shit! There is NO time to think. Spear. NOW!

Just as the shiver was about to catapult itself to Undyne, a tin bronze spear came flying trough one of the bushes, which shifted the attention of Alphys, Asgore, Sans and Papyrus to the sender's direction.

What proceeded to jump out of the shrubbery was a roughly 210 centimeter tall man covered in primitive armor, equipped with a mask and a jagged blade being held in two hands close to his body.

Damn!

To the Seraph's disappointment, the spear merely hit the side of the shiver, only managing to injure it slightly. Still, it was enough to redirect its attention to him, which was a win in his book. Though, he also managed to get the attention of the whole group, which looked at him in shock and surprise! By now Toriel and Frisk were just arriving at the chaos that had unfolded, both sharing the same expression as the others.

The fight ensued with the shiver running up to the Seraph, who anticipated the lunge that came from it, weaving the tin bronze falx into its mouth. While it did knock the creature back, it simply resumed the onslaught and took the Seraph's upper bosy into the grasp of its jaw, applying heavy pressure to it.

He was feeling the pain, letting out grunts while still recovering from the strike he performed. The armor was at least preventing significant damage though. However, he instantly took upon the action again by quickly ramming the blade into the side of the creature, flinging it away.

Thankfully, this was all that was needed to make the shiver run away into the forest, hopefully never to be seen again.

Huff, Huff... good. At last. Nobody got hurt. Now to retrieve my spear and- ah. Right. The people. Shit. What do I do now...?

Luckily for him, every single one of the monsters were still frozen in place from the sight that just took place. They did not foresee any of this. They needed time to process first while being dumbstruck.

Sigh "Errr... Greetings.... people." The Seraph almost said with enthusiasm.

Great, a flawless introduction to them. Awesome. Perfect.

I want to ram that falx into myself.

To be contunued...
