Work Text:
Fount stares at the cookies below watching as they scold him for telling lies… when has he ever told lies? Spread deceit even? The thought of telling or spreading deceit disgusts him even.
“Please! You have to believe me!” He desperately pleads just to have harsh words come back at him.
“Liar!” One shouts.
“O Fount of Knowledge you don’t know anything!” Another yelled.
“So why are you the Fount of Knowledge!” The same one continued.
Fount, unable to bear anymore more hurries back inside the Spire of Knowledge breathing heavily, his vision blurring. Why must things be like this?
Why don’t the witches answer anymore? Guide him anymore?
Did he do something? Was he not worthy enough anymore? Was this his punishment?
Did he deserve it?
His breaths come out in heavy puffs, a wave of dizziness hitting him hard. He stumbles to the floor gripping his chest attempting to pull his clothing that seemed tight on him.
“I’m sorry! I'm so sorry!” He cries out to someone nonexistent. He just wanted someone. Anyone! Is he truly that pathetic after centuries of living he can’t find one person that stays?
Well… perhaps one person but he’s hardly here. The Recluse, The hermit, someone quiet and composed, always hanging with the Fount for comfort.
The Fount wonders where he's at now. Where does he go when he disappears for long periods of time? He just wants to understand why.
Maybe he wasn't made to understand why. But he wants to. Even now as he's sobbing, conflicted. He yearns for that connection. Why can't he get it?
Why does he have to be like this?
Why does the world have to be so cruel?
Why does this world need deceit to cope? He never understood, and he doesn't think he will. That infuriates him.
This world would rather have a sweet lie than the awful truth. It sickens him.
For once he doesn't know the answer. It was his purpose. He's supposed to know!
It's what he was created for.
If he didn't even know the answer to anything and everything then what was he truly? Just a waste of space? He feels useless.
Maybe he is useless.
Maybe he deserves all this pain, this hate from this cunning world. Sometimes he wonders if he should just disappear.
Maybe that would be easier.
Would anyone even miss him?
Besides his few loyal followers.
This world is so cruel, so pointless, given a purpose he can't even do correctly. That purpose being the exact reason he was made. He was nothing without his purpose.
So what was he now?
The pain repeats and repeats over and over again he wonders when it will just stop. What does it take for all of it to stop?
Why does he have to be like this? Why does the world have to be filled with awful lies just for everyone to be happy?
Why does no one want the truth? The cold hard truth, he feels so hopeless.
"Fount?" A voice snapped him out of his thoughts. There he was the Recluse standing in the doorway. Watching the Fount spiral.
Fount continues to let out these raw sobs as the Recluse approaches. "Fount…" Truthless whispers sitting on the floor beside him. Automatically the Fount quickly goes into his arms burying his face in his chest.
"It's okay… let it out, you're okay." Truthless wrapped his arms around him protectively, his chin resting on the top of his head. Occasionally giving small kisses.
Right… How could the Fount forget he has the Recluse? Despite his flaws and mistakes the Recluse is always there loving and supporting him. "You're okay I got you… shh." The Recluse whispered, trying to soothe him to sleep. Oh how he loves him so much.
Yet the Fount doubts it.
The Fount continued to sob, Truthless's robes soaked in his tears but he didn't care. He was focused on making sure the Fount was safe and calm. The Fount is his priority. Always.
When the Fount mostly calmed down the Recluse gently lifts the Fount holding him against his chest. Pressing soft kisses to his forehead. Whispering kind words to him hoping to get rid of those thoughts out of his head.
Although he knows the words won't help he still whispers it hoping to give him a sense of peace.
"Are you okay now, my love?" He says gently placing him down on the bed. The Recluse hates those cookies, the ones making his beloved cry. If he could he'll kill them all, but he knows the Fount won't allow it.
The Fount gives a simple nod tugging on him. "Stay with me." He whispers. The Recluse lays down pulling him close. "I'm sorry, my love.." The Fount whispers, the Recluse shakes his head burying his face in his beloved's hair.
"Don't apologize, it's not your fault. It's never your fault. They are selfish; they don't deserve you or your knowledge. You are too precious to waste your tears over them." He firmly replies slowly inhaling his scent.
The Fount didn't reply, doubt clouding his mind despite his words. The Recluse as if sensing it showers him with gentle kisses. Making the Fount sigh in relief.
"You deserve the world… you are my world. Don't let those thoughts make you think otherwise." The Recluse says, pressing a soft kiss on his lips. The Fount kisses back, oh how he loves him.
All his worries, the thoughts, the cunning world, gone in an instant. He feels at peace, he feels safe with the Recluse. That's one of the many reasons he loves him.
Even when he feels such despair and helplessness, the hermit is always there. No matter what those thoughts say. The Hermit will always be there, if he likes it or not.
And he doesn't mind… not at all.
"My love?" He said, whispering in his ear.
"Yes?" The Fount replied looking up at him, his eyes glossy.
"I love you so much."
"…I love you too." In response, the hermit gives him another gentle kiss.
"Come to me if you need anything.. and I mean it, Fount."
"I will, my dear." The Fount said reluctantly.
"Get some sleep okay? You need it." The Recluse says spooning him, holding him tightly yet protective. He'll make sure the Fount sleeps peacefully and soundly.
The Fount slowly drifts off to sleep, knowing he has someone who loves everything about him.
Maybe… things will be okay after all.
