There was a rumor spreading throughout the peaks of Cang Qiong mountain sect.
"A demon sleeps deep below the mountain, snatching any disciple that dares break the rules."
Most disciples thought little of it, continuing their day to day life with no worry or concern. If said demon did exist, then surely it was well contained and the story was simply used to scare disciples into behaving. There was one peak where this differed, however.
On An Ding peak, there was a secret older disciples knew by heart.
The demon that once rested below the mountain had awoken long ago and resided within the skin of An Ding's peak lord. Perhaps it had never slept at all, simply laying in wait for the proper vessel to arrive.
Perhaps peak lord Shang Qinghua had simply been born with a demon's soul.

Summary
Shen Yuan is not the type to take night walks.
He can't say that he regrets this decision. The park is surprisingly nice at night. He is tucked in a small alley illuminated by a warm light from the lampposts. There aren't any people here, most of them preferring to stick to the main path. The air is cool and humid, feeling refreshing in his lungs. The night sky is… not very impressive. The light pollution is too strong to see more than a couple of stars. At least the moon is pretty.
It's nice Shen Yuan thinks to himself. Maybe he should do that more often?
And then a goddamn meteorite falls from the sky.
Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe were just neighbors who didn't interact much. However, after the incident in which a meteorite almost falls on Luo Binghe's head they quickly become good friends.
On the unrelated note, Shen Yuan's life seems to go awfully smoothly recently.

The walls, ceiling, and part of the floor had all been covered in more talismans, though these seemed older and Shen Jiu could not place their use. The room was also completely empty- save for the very center. A raised platform made of stone, as if it had been carved from the very ground itself. The artifact was sitting on top.
Shen Jiu had seen a few such things by this point, though this one still confused him. He had expected some weapon, a staff, or perhaps some mundane object given a new life.
Instead, the thing sitting on the stone platform was a coffin.
Shen Jiu is sent on a completely normal mission.
