After the fabled Luke Skywalker refuses to help her, Rey turns to a host of Force Ghosts for advice. Unfortunately, none of the great Jedi masters of the past can figure out what's going on either, and Kylo Ren keeps bursting in on their meetings using their Force Bond. With no satisfactory answers from the Ghost Jedi Council and making no progress with Luke, Rey sets out to find the man who prophesied The Chosen One so she can learn how to bring balance to the Force herself. With four or five Force Ghosts in tow. And her stalker on-again off-again boyfriend/enemy on her tail.
Posting this as a script with music and lyrics, and kind of figuring out how I'm going to format it on here as I go. It may kind of change and evolve as I post more, i.e. "chapters" could be split up differently, stuff like that. So please excuse the virtual dust. ^^;

It has been several years since the Battle of Crait, and an ascendant Resistance fleet hunts down the last vestiges of the once mighty First Order. As the end of the war approaches Rey and Kylo Ren both seek answers to questions about the past, and are not prepared for what the past has waiting for them.
This is a rewrite of Episode IX/AU. I had several goals in this rewrite. One was to obviously avoid some of the plot holes, poorly thought out additions to the lore, and general weakness of the story in Rise of Skywalker. Another was to write a version that did not go back on so much of The Last Jedi. A third, and probably most important, goal was to draw more connections between the final episode and the prequels. It takes account of Carrie Fisher's death and the some other constraints I have read the screenwriters were under.

In the aftermath of Exegol, Ben emerges—not as the savior, but as a man tethered to his mistakes, haunted by the name he once wore: Kylo Ren. He cannot reconcile the blood on his hands with the hope Rey places in him. Redemption, he believes, is a dream too far, for the darkness inside him has never truly gone. He is neither light nor dark, but something in between, a soul adrift. Every time he draws on the Force, the ghosts of his past rise up to meet him, and he questions whether he is worthy of the future they are trying to build.
Rey, too, is lost. The last Jedi, a title she never asked for, the weight of a dying order pressed upon her shoulders. She is the keeper of hope, the bearer of tradition, but she is also a child of the galaxy’s scars. The Jedi are gone, the Sith crushed underfoot, but what path does she carve for herself in this new dawn? How does she honor the Jedi legacy when she, too, is broken?

Rey was mesmerized by the figure. Some of his mannerisms were achingly familiar–his stalking gait, how he carried his shoulders. But she didn’t dare dream it was him. Hope only led to misery. She learned that when she was a little girl, and she wasn’t going to let wishes based on a phantom fighter tear her heart apart.
“That can’t be him,” Rey spat out. “Dash that thought, because he’s long gone.”
Finn paused the image as a lightsaber came into view. Even though the holo was the usual pale blue, there was no mistaking the crossguard lightsaber with its fiery plasma blades. Only they did not appear dark to suggest the crimson beams with which she was familiar. These appeared to blaze a blinding white.
“Tell me again you don’t think that’s Ren,” Finn stated.

Puzzled, Finn watched the floor next to R2-D2 as the holo slowly took shape, scan lines thickly visible on the old-format hologram. It was a man kneeling, one hand pressed to his side and the other supporting himself as he leaned heavily against the ground. "Chewie," he said, and Finn blinked at the hologram because surely that couldn't be who it looked like.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me," Poe said.
The Falcon leaves Exegol in a hurry to help some of the other systems that are rising up across the galaxy. But when the next battle is over, they get a holo message on the ship's oldest comms system—one that's been broken since years before the Resistance was founded. Finn doesn't have any idea who's calling, but Chewie and Lando seem to have a guess.
