Summary
After the destruction and recreation of the universe, Mario is hailed as a legendary hero, and his birthday is turned into a holiday known as Super Mario Day. One year, the evil Bowser attacks once again, and this time he has a horrifying new power: the ability to travel to other universes entirely separate from his and Mario’s own. Mario pursues Bowser into one of his portals and ends up in a mysterious new universe, where he meets a half-human, half-alien boy named Steven, who also happens to be a universe savior celebrating his birthday. The two of them decide to celebrate their birthdays together, but things go horribly awry when they make a terrifying discovery: Bowser and an old friend of Steven’s have joined forces to fulfill an ancient grudge and conquer all the dimensions of the multiverse. Will Mario and Steven have what it takes to defeat this alliance, or will all existences be plunged into eternal darkness by two vengeful souls?

An almost forgotten prophesy foretells the return of an ancient evil that will bring about the destruction of all. The only way to stop this evil is if the one who is descendent of the legendary Pheonix King and Star Queen unites the lands to stand up and fight. The Star Queen was the ruler of an ancient civilization of the stars that was said to have created all the power ups from mushrooms to even the super star and that they could unlock the true power of these items. The Pheonix King was a very powerful being who was said to be strong enough to topple gods. Together they ruled through many centuries of peace side by side. Until one day a great evil came and nearly destroyed the worlds. The Star Queen and the Pheonix King eventually managed to seal away this evil but at great cost. Most of their children and people were lost. Using the last bits of their power they scattered what remained to be hidden and sealed the power of their last surviving grandchild away so they can know peace and be hidden from the followers of the evil who seek to exploit or destroy them in order to release the evil once again.

Luigi isn't used to winning. So when he gets a mysterious letter claiming that he's won an enormous mansion, he naturally gets excited... but there's just one little catch. There's ghosts all over the place, and the house is haunted!
To make matters worse, Luigi's older brother, Mario, was last seen going into the mansion and never coming out. Luigi hates ghosts - he's deathly afraid of them, in fact - but he soon discovers it's more complicated than that. According to a kind old scientist living nearby, the mansion doesn't even exist at all!
It turns out that this inventor, Professor E. Gadd, has been studying the ghosts for some time - and passes on a useful weapon to help Luigi in his quest. The Poltergust 3000 is no ordinary vacuum: it's a wearable tool capable of capturing specters!
Luigi isn't exactly known for his bravery, but he sets out into the dark house to discover the truth. Can he overcome his obstacles - including himself - and find Mario before it's too late?
