Summary
Contrary to popular opinion, Katsuki was excited about rescue training.
Sure, he wasn't over the moon about it like some of his classmates– he had a bit of a headache pulsing from their endless jabbering on the bus, the nervous energy coming out of them in the form of word vomit while he elected to look out the window– but he was excited.
He knew he was built to be a combat hero. Even if he had a less combat-oriented quirk, he was aware that his bedside manner was probably only matched by evil doctors doing human experimentation.
Still, he wasn't an idiot. All Might had made his debut saving a hundred people at once. If Katsuki had any hope of surpassing him, he'd have to be really good at rescue– and make no mistake, Katsuki was the best. He'd crush this training, and he'd be the best damn rescuer in his class.
So yeah, he was excited.
But that excitement didn't hold a candle to what he felt when shit immediately went sideways.
(After all, he was born to be a combat hero.)

She paused, surveying the audience. "You were selected after rigorous testing. Not only that, you were shown a side to heroics that is not seen by many. Most would prefer to sweep it under the rug, pretend it doesn't exist– but you stayed. You have chosen Shiketsu back. That in itself is something to be proud of.
"It is my promise to you, my students, that the lessons you take from Shiketsu will serve you for years, even if you choose a different path. Perseverance will lead to strength. Teamwork is paramount. Kindness is everything. That is Shiketsu's model; for what is being a hero, if not to be kind?"

Summary
By all accounts, Izuku is a normal boy. He has a normal life, a normal mom, a normal quirk, and a normal dream– one of becoming a hero.
But sometimes, “normal” isn’t enough to take a target off your back.
After Katsuki pushes a little too hard, Izuku decides on a different path towards his dream; one that doesn’t take him to Yuuei. One that takes him to Shiketsu, instead.
Thank god, too– his mom would probably have a heart attack if he was wrapped up in what was happening at Yuuei.
(But there’s a storm brewing on the horizon, and every war has casualties.)

"I’m only two minutes late!” Izuku protested. Had he missed the start of an important test? None of the national, standardized tests were supposed to happen this month and even being two minutes late to one of those wouldn’t elicit this sort of reaction. They were discussing their career interest forms today, but that was it. Nothing time-critical was supposed to be happening.
“Midoriya, you were reported missing a week ago. No one has seen you for eight days. The police have been combing the city for you.”
"I’m sorry. What?”
Midoriya Izuku went missing for a week and turned up in a back alleyway with skills he's never even heard of and no memory of how he came by them. He resigns himself to never learning the truth of what happened to him, but he shouldn't waste this chance should he? He could become a hero with reflexes like these.
