What they cannot handle, however, is Batman's habit of bringing highly dangerous, intensely chaotic children to official Watchtower meetings.
Or: Four times Batman introduced a new Robin to a deeply stressed-out Justice League, and the one time they realized Gotham's sidekicks are a force of nature that cannot be stopped.

Summary
Settling into the new Kira Task Force headquarters after Light's time in captivity, L makes the decision to be chained to Light and with him 24/7. This decision was, on the surface, meant to create pressure for his prime suspect and to disallow Kira committing more murders under his watch. However, Light is no longer sure exactly why he insisted that he be put into captivity, and he does not quite seem like he remembers or possesses the power to commit murder from a remote location.
As the two of them coexist with forced proximity at all hours of the day, questions of dignity, personal space, and the nature of their relationship arise, all while Light deals with the fact that his father seems to give his ongoing consent to this situation.
[An alternate universe exploring the unsettling details of the 'chained together' situation, culminating in some release of sexual tension with a lot of emotional and character exploration along the way.]

The soulmate string is a purely human trait; even if two connected humans have no similarities, no possible contact with each other up until their first meeting, they could have one. Sometimes the strings change colors as a relationship evolves, a phenomena that was extremely hard to track. They can't be replicated. There's no way to artificially duplicate a string or change its color. Nobody has been able to figure out if they're even made of anything other than light. And to round it all off, the only people that can see the strings are you and whoever you're connected to.
This is especially bad for Ryland, who has two clear strings shooting straight up into the sky.

With the little evidence they did have, they could only conclude that L must’ve been Kira the whole time. And after causing Light Yagami to die from a heart attack, he killed himself.
Soichiro didn’t cope well with the death of his son. And the part he played in it.

Author's original summary:
The existence of Phantom, a teen hero relatively new on the scene, has been brought before Clark's attention.
The kid's doing a good job; he has a few accidents, but otherwise he's doing his best and, given the fact that there are zero civilian casualties, his best is more than good enough.
The problem is that there seems to be a disconnect between Phantom and the humans he's protecting, one due to what Clark is sure are cultural misunderstandings and, more prevalently, bad press representation that keeps being done over and over again.
Clark is uniquely suited to both of those things. Superman, not so much.
Clark sets out as Clark Kent, the reporter, and not as Superman, to give Phantom the interview he should have gotten when he first arrived on the hero scene...and, perhaps, to help the kid get used to explaining things to humans instead of assuming they'll understand.
