Red lightwaves, on the other hand, never reach the deep ocean. Most deep sea organisms don’t even have photoreceptors to see that color. It’s practically invisible to them. If their specimen is truly from the deep, it will likely be unaffected by red lights.
They come on with a flick of Grace’s finger – two wide beams turning the water blood red. Something stirs in the back of the tank. A long, lithe shape. Too far back for the lights to illuminate properly. Grace leans into the barrier, until his nose brushes the acrylic, but it evades him, even under the light.

Summary
The stranger pressed against the far wall, curling in on himself. His chest heaved. Bandages covered most of the left side of his face, partially obscuring one eye. A wolf in a foxtrap, teeth bared and ready to snap.
After living for a few years on Erid, Grace and Rocky decide to see what other life exists out in the universe. The last thing they expected to find was a human hurtling through the Sirius star system in a welded sub.
aka, Simon wakes up on a strange spaceship and has to face the fact that he survived the blood ocean.

Summary
The apocalypse has started in the briny depths.
Ryland Grace, a scientist with a fondness for the ocean, enjoys a simple life. He lives in his tiny shack in a New England wharf town and teaches his precious students until eclipses plunge the small town into darkness and fish wash up on the coastline, bloated and rotting from the inside out.
Something is deeply wrong with the sea, and Grace has no idea how to fix it.
Meanwhile, a convict known as Simon "The Butcher," the sole survivor of a wrecked ship meant to feed a god, finds his humanity stripped from him and turned into a monster beneath the waves.
When Grace finds Simon, Simon is convinced his hell will never end.
Grace has no idea his is only just beginning.

What if, BloodyMary, but instead of space, we're in the 1800s, with big wooden ships and Simon is a mer-like creature who Grace chooses to befriend? And of course, Eldritch gods and horror abound.
Project Hail Mary, Iron Lung, H.P. Lovecraft, Dredge, The Lighthouse and gods-know-what-else all had a nice blood orgy in the sea and the author decided to write it.
