Hopefully y'all will like the ending as much as you like the beginning - but there's still some travelling to go before the boys reach the end. A few more bits of Romany to encounter. Summary
And around we go again but with a different cliche sort of phrase. How this went from a one shot to a likely trilogy is beyond me but I follow wherever the inspiration goes.
The beginning will not make sense at all if you haven't read the first one but the tl/dr summary is that d'Artagnan's mother was a Romani (gypsy) - one of the most hated peoples of all time. He saved the King from a traitor that resulted, of course, in his injuries. But he's back with the Musketeers, recovering, except now they know his background and they all have to learn to live with it.
As always, comment, kudos and the like are much appreciated and welcomed and no disrespect or disparagement is meant to the Romani people of any kind. Quite the opposite in fact.Series

“Pony, Pony,” Darry sits up from the rug and takes his youngest brother by the arms, “Johnny is dead. Dally is dead. But you can’t go too. We’d fall apart without you. We’d be nothing without you. Ever since you and Soda were born, my entire life has been about you two. You’re everything to me and, and-”
His voice cracks right down the middle, like a splinter of lightning across a darkened sky.
“Ponyboy, I watched Mom and Dad die, then Johnny and Dally. I can’t watch you die too. I know I’m hard on you, I know sometimes I get mad and I shout and I struggle, but I love you. I’m just so scared.”
Based on a scene in the musical where Cherry returns Johnny’s clothes to Ponyboy and he just sits with his knees to his chin, clutching the bundle of clothes to his chest and refusing to speak. It was so poignant, such a moment of raw and real grief.

Summary
Almost ten years ago, the Curtis family's world falls apart when four year old Ponyboy is taken from the park nearby. Darry and Soda are left reeling when their parents are killed in an accident two weeks before the ninth anniversary of their brother's disappearance. In order for Darry to keep custody of Soda, he has to agree to be a temporary foster care parent. With an overcrowded system, he knows this is the State's way of creating more houses, and Darry knows he'll do whatever he can to keep his brother.
However, when Peter James, a fourteen year old who demands to be called "Pony", gets put in his care, Darry can't help but think he's getting more than he bargained for. It's impossible for him not to notice the similarities, and Darry and Soda both find themselves putting all the missing pieces together so that they might reunite with their baby brother, and bring him home for good.
aka an AU where Ponyboy finds his way back to his brothers in an unconventional way, proving that he's their baby brother in every universe, and they'll always find a way to take care of him.
The title of course comes from Phil Collins

There's a particular kind of quiet in the Curtis house — the kind that lives in folded laundry, in candles lit during blackouts, in a fifteen-year-old boy who starves himself so his brothers can eat and never says a word about it.
Ponyboy has always known how to carry weight without complaining, how to make the dark beautiful, how to let cruel words slide off his back like rain off a tin roof. But there's a difference between surviving and being seen, and nobody's quite figured out where that line falls yet. When Darry finally does — really, truly does — it won't be with fists or fire. It'll be with soup. And a hand on the back of a neck. And the terrifying, tender realization that the softest things in this world are sometimes the strongest.
