Jongho said, "This is a rescue mission. You kidnapped someone I know from a Saero City convoy. I'm not really someone who wears a City badge and runs around in the wasteland, normally, but…" He shrugged. "It paid well."
"Me? I kidnapped someone?" Mingi said. This didn't sound like him at all.

San is a genetically modified baby, marketed as the perfect human. His parents spent a lot on him, and go to great lengths to make sure he's safe and healthy. He's to stay pristine and untouched by even the knowledge of the darker things in life, because, his father says, telling him about them would be like "scratching the paint of a car to make it more resistant to scratches."
Yunho wears shirts with cat puns and sweet smiles, but he has a talent for inserting himself into San's life in less than standard ways. San thinks he might be the kind of person who scratches cars.

Love can grow in the strangest of places, like between a small cursed northern harbor seal and an enormous sacred tropical whale shark. Despite selkies and sharks being age old enemies, and San and Yunho being religious figures to their respective peoples, their accidental meeting seems like destiny.
But the selkie curse makes everyone want to kidnap them, and one day, San is gone. Yunho's spiritual responsibilities forbid him from looking for him, or falling in love at all, but he can't forget about the seal. He has no choice but to go to the most dangerous and dreaded of all places to find out what happened - up on land.
Meanwhile, blue shark Mingi is left to manage the increasingly complicated fallout from San and Yunho's disappearance, with a little help from Hongjoong the sea witch, among others.

Mingi's exhalation shakes, and he tightens his control on himself to not accidentally make a sound. His bag is sitting on the seat next to him, and he pulls it closer as if he'll put his stuff in it and get up, maybe go talk to Jongho up front. It's fine if the other guys are listening to Yunho's story, because they're just interested in the adventure, maybe wanting an experience like this for themselves. It's not like that for him, but the bag stays closed.
