The only window in Josuke's room, where Josuke himself had begrudgingly carried himself off to in the meantime, was covered in cold, sharp, white flurries of snow. For a brief moment, he imagined himself running out into the snow, burying himself inside of the frost and sleet.
Then, the doorbell rung, and it was as if Josuke's entire being lit into open flame.

He took hold of one of Murdock’s ankles. “I could break this,” he said. “You wouldn’t be able to run.”
Murdock struggled against his grip, trying to pull his leg away. “You’re fucked in the head.”
“I’m not going to do it.”
Murdock laughed, harsh and rudely. “I’m supposed to be grateful?”
His body reacted before his mind did and he leaped forward, closing his fingers around Murdock’s throat. Murdock hissed through gritted teeth, his body tensed and his hands came up to Dex’ shoulders, trying to push him away but he was too weak in this state. His face grimaced in pain.
“I’m not going to do it,” Dex repeated and eased his grasp on Murdock. “Don’t worry.”
Murdock is hurt. Dex takes care of him to the best of his capabilities.

He waits for the salve but instead feels only Matt’s fingers, featherlight, skimming the edges of his wound. One of them brushes over the stitches and Dex feels it everywhere, a tingle running through his whole body. Matt must feel the goosebumps, but his fingers stay there, light, just resting.
“Okay?”
Dex hums, not wanting to speak; not even wanting to breathe.

“You don’t have to do this,” Dex’s voice cracked as he protested, though didn’t resist as Matt ripped his shirt the rest of the way off, taking the blood-soaked rag from the man’s limp hand against his side. “Stop talking.” Dex didn’t bother to fight as Matt grabbed his shoulder, planting a knee in between his legs and pulling him forwards to feel around his back for an exit wound. The first thing he felt was thick, raised scar tissue along Dex’s spine, the other man’s breath shuddering audibly with the sensation. Further down, his fingers dragged along his overheated skin, going left to right, ignoring the hand wrapping around his forearm—was the bullet still inside?
Or, Matt’s unwittingly becoming Dex’s brand new North Star, amongst other things.
