Summary
All of that was a constant, a predefined truth before you’d entered the House.
Now you felt so out of depth.
Isabeau and Mirabelle started using skills you‘d never seen them use. Odile used much more complicated and dangerous skills than before. And even Bonnie was far more eager to fight. What’s worse, they were allowed to fight. No one seemed to bat an eye when Bonnie stood right next to you during one of the first fights with Sadness in the House. You tried to make them back off, to support you only when they had a chance, but Odile shrugged.
“Let the kid have their fun,” she said as if that was something you always did. As if allowing a preteen fight was a normal thing to do.(Or, Siffrin's party was behaving strangely since entering the House. Like they knew something Siffrin didn't.)

Summary
It has been like this for nearly fifteen years.
One day the empty house in your neighbourhood was suddenly inhabited by a weird-looking stranger speaking in a foreign language.
One day your partner couldn’t remember half of the places they used to go for their best catches.
One day your child ran away from home. He took your boat, the hat and the cloak you made him last year. He left a plate still full of food and all of his things.

“Dad! Bruce, please! Please help me!” sobbed the voice. The teenager’s voice. Not a kid’s anymore, but not yet a man's voice. “Dad, I’m scared!”
Batman… Bruce… Bruce couldn’t. He pulled out the comm, throwing it as far as possible.(Or the sensor in Bruce's son's grave detects something. Mic in his coffin detects something. Bruce knows better than to believe that.)

Summary
There, with a face not showing any emotions, was the girl - Cassandra. She was sitting by the coffee table, with a crayon in her left hand. She was characteristically Asian, her long, thick hair was tied into a ponytail.
(...)
“Cassie,” Stephanie said, making the little girl’s (...) giant eyes look at her. “This is Jason. He’s my friend’s younger brother. I’m counting on you to make him feel welcome and to have fun with him, okay? And no fighting!”
Cassandra continued to stare at her, with no indication she even heard Stephanie. She glanced at Jason for a moment, but there was no expression whatsoever on her face.(Or Jason makes a friend his age!)

Summary
“Have you always read this much?” Tim asked with interest.
Jason shrugged, faking nonchalance, but his freckled face got redder like always when someone took interest in him, and this time he fixed himself to a sitting position, ready as always to talk about his one true love - books. Or, one of two true loves, anything edible coming close behind.
“I… My mom and I… We used to read together a lot. When I was a baby.” His voice was kind of wobbly, not unusual when the topic of Catherine Todd was coming up. His hands were getting clasped and unclasped every few seconds, his body showing his abashment to the outside world. Jason didn’t seem to be conscious of it. “We… were lying together in our bed and my mom read to me, and sometimes asked me to read some words or sentences. And when I learnt to read fast enough, we stopped reading the same book. My mom read her books, I read mine. But like… Still… Still together, you know.”(Or Tim is talking with Jason about books.)

Summary
“What happened to you as a child…The terror, the pain, the horrors. But that secret is one that neither of us should have kept. You needed repair, and instead I gave you an outlet to act out on. For that, I apologize.”
Something was off with Jason. Bruce couldn’t put his finger on what it was, initially. It took a long time for the inkling to shape into a theory, and then for that theory to become quiet certainty. In hindsight, Bruce knows now how deeply he failed Jason. Before the Joker. Before Felipe Garzonas, even.
Bruce knew what Jason was hiding. He was the world’s greatest detective and Jason’s father. He knew what happened to street kids who got backed into corners or had to resort to unseemly methods of survival in a city like Gotham. Bruce knew how to identify what were blatant symptoms of a trauma survivor. He just didn’t want to face it.

Summary
Clark never fully understood the extent of Bruce Wayne's philosophy. Which is why finding a dead body under the field that Dick Grayson's daughter played in shocked him.
“Alright,” he chuckled before taking the girl’s hand and starting to scan the grounds. “I’m not seeing any-“
Was that-
“Dick?” He said to the quiet long-peering figure at the doorframe. “Why is there a man under the thorn bush?”
“Oh, Great Uncle Clark,” Maren patted his hand gently before running into the open arms of her father. “You’re so silly,”

Summary
There had been talk – jokes, really – about the reason Bruce Wayne took in three dark-haired, blue-eyed orphans, about what he wanted from them. They had started as soon as he took in the first one, the circus kid, and had only gotten worse with the street rat and the neighbor’s boy, and Oliver. Oliver had. Had shut that talk down.
It was an affront to a good man to suggest he’d engage in perversions like that, he’d said. Those kinds of rumors could do real damage, even if they weren’t meant maliciously, he’d said. Think of what it would do to the kids if that kind of talk got back to them, he’d said.Series
