“Don’t sweat yourself Alfred, I’m fine the way I am”, was all he could land on but he could feel Bruce’s gaze on him a little too longer than he would like. He just knows his words probably are not going to mean anything. Jason might be twelve but he isn’t stupid, he’s grown enough to understand when things are just not going to go his way so he decides he will work through it.

Summary
It truly is a mockery of it all, cruel irony or a cosmic joke. Call it whatever it doesn't seem to leave a good taste in his mouth. And isn't it on him, who put him in that position. All his talks about steeling oneself against what they come across every night remain mere words in the face of this. In front of a child who saw his mother in a woman he could not save. Subconsciously, Bruce tightened his grip on Jason's hand, thumb rubbing circles on the skin under his index. Hands so small, hands which held a dying woman's face with gentle precision when he had delivered steady breaths.

A routine patrol that goes awry, in the most unexpected of ways, brings Jason to the forefront of his traumas. Bruce and his promise persists but the protocol is tested when even the safety hold doesn't work like it should have.

Summary
Two months, Bruce understands, although not too long, is still long enough for the novelty to have worn off a bit. They've become close. Closer than Bruce anticipated but not quite still. The thing is, Bruce can tell for Jason, he's not quite reliable just yet. He has not become the adult that can be trusted and Bruce can feel him try. Feel the way Jason sometimes lights up around him then quickly retreats like pulling his defenses back up. Bruce tries not to take it to heart. It affects him regardless. Jason tests him, as if knowing at his core, he doesn't belong. Waiting for the shoe to drop, the inevitable betrayal, for Bruce to reveal his true colours.

Trust acquires a new meaning, an unexpected level of it's own which tests Bruce and Jason's budding relationship when an argument spirals out of control and Bruce has to bring an end to it. The only way how is to put Jason in a safety hold so he doesn't hurt himself. A protocol is established, a promise reiterated.

Summary
Jason slings himself over the railing—just to prove that he still can—and heads down the fire exit, taking two stairs at a time despite himself. It's a quick walk down to the bend, but he finds himself breathless anyway, the warm summer air choking him with a sweaty kind of anticipation. A part of him wishes he had changed before coming down. He's in an old band T-shirt that doesn't bode well with the impression he's trying to make. But delaying his descent would've almost certainly driven his visitor away, and Jason wants that even less than he wants to make a bad impression.
He opens the door and slides in.
"Jason," says Batman, like he wasn't expecting him. Like he hadn't been beaming Morse code into the dust motes like the theatrical vampire that he is.

Summary
The players: Robin, who sees the path of the bullet in his mind’s eye and staunchly refuses to allow the clock to reach the minute where it becomes a reality
The scene: Robin slams into the gunman with the approximate speed and force of a souped up 1965 Thunderbird before the gun can fire. Maybe the gunman bucks. Maybe Robin has too much velocity. Maybe, maybe, maybe. It is impossible to parse out every muscle and movement from the other. The end result is the same.
The scene: Robin and the gunman go over the side of the building together, and together they tumble down.
It takes seconds. The fall too. But, for all that Batman regains a rush of strength that could easily be described as inhuman, he is not faster than gravity.

Talia’s hands didn't flatter as she rearranged the cutlery on the table, but only because Talia wasn’t sure if she was physically capable of freezing, nowadays. The training for high-stress situations was so embedded into her that, more often than not, she felt like an echoing voice in an autonomous body, a puppet of her own reflexes. She moved in automatic, and in more than half of the time there wasn’t anything on her mind as she steamed tea, mind as blank as when wielding her swords.
“What do you mean?” She asked, softly.
Talia and Jason talk about life, over tea.
