He stares at Sirius then, eyes red rimmed and face resigned with the kind of grief James knows would follow him every single day. He looks at the boy he would sell his soul in a second to protect. Then he does.
“I’ll do it.” James says firmly.

Harry’s parents realize he’s regressed, and while normally that wouldn’t be a problem, they’ll both be busy within the hour.
Sirius and Peter still aren’t allowed to take care of Little!Harry after the Egg Incident, and Remus will be out of reach for the next two weeks at least.
Who else can they go to but their old, and Harry’s current Headmaster! Old Dumbles likes taking care of baby Harry more than he tries to pretend, anyway.
