Summary
“Woah!” Camilo exclaims at the flash of the camera. He looks to his father beside him. “Papá! We’re in the middle of a board game. Give us some warning.”
Mirabel was about to make her next move, but she’s forgotten all about the board now. She drops the plastic piece representing her character.
“Tio Felix,” she acknowledges, smiling brightly as he snaps another photograph of her and Camilo, but she’s shaking.
She places her hands on her lap, suppressing the tremors.
In which Mirabel is used to being left out of family photos, and the unfamiliarity of inclusion is a double-edged sword.

Like a planet drawn to a solar system, Vi grows closer to Caitlyn, and her own inadequacies have never seemed so prominent.
She is not ashamed of coming from Zaun. She is not doubtful of her strength and agility, her skills and demeanor.
But being around Caitlyn means finding an affinity instead of widening a rift—building a bond rather than subverting an opponent. Vi knows how to fight. She’s been doing it her entire life.
Being with Caitlyn, however, is being vulnerable.

The light overpowers and conquers and consumes. It’s indescribably fast and unthinkably small; it passes through every crack and crevice and regardless of how the story went, one outcome is strikingly clear: there is no world in which Kylo Ren would have lasted. It was always going to end with Ben Solo.

Summary
The whole ‘Cupcake’ endearment started getting blown out of proportions after Jinx decided it’d be hilarious to bake desserts for Caitlyn and Vi on a daily basis to imply that they’re a sweet couple. She stole Caitlyn’s kitchen ingredients to do it, which Caitlyn found out pretty quickly. She didn’t do anything to stop it, however, so Jinx took that as her green light to continue. She didn’t intend on stopping if she didn’t have Caitlyn’s permission, either way.
(Also, the ingredients are getting restocked, so Jinx has a sneaking suspicion that Caitlyn is beyond okay with it. Maybe she’s encouraging her…)
Jinx, Caitlyn, and Vi bake together. It's very, very chaotic, but that's just Jinx's signature charm.

Summary
There are real tears forming at the corners of Shinsou's eyes, and it’s entirely the fault of his classmates.
There are holiday gifts piling up outside his dorm room, and he doesn’t know what to do with them. They’re blocking the doorway, and every time he thinks the barrage is over, another person comes by and tosses another one in there. He’s going to start full-on sobbing if this doesn’t stop anytime soon.
In which Shinsou goes through all 5 stages of grief as he is faced with the most intimidating obstacle yet: love and affection from his new classmates as they integrate him into their pseudo-family.

For the record, I haven’t yet watched the original Top Gun but I watched the clip of Goose’s death and then came to read this. Maverick’s mental state was portrayed really well. It’s kind of unimaginable what it’d be like to be in his position but that’s an experience that sticks with you. Love that all the other characters were there for him. Psychological distress can manifest as physical illnesses and this was shown in this fic.

Fighting an endless war will be a labor of love that'll never pay off. Sometimes what you fight for should be change and not elimination. Erik's ideals have always been hopelessly radical and it's exhausting to watch throughout the course of the X-men movies because you know that it's not only something you find in the movies of the younger cast. You know it'll go on until everyone's like a senior citizen. Don't give your youth and don't give your life to a cause you have failed to see through each time you've tried. The world does not need to be perfect for you to be happy. Come home.

A dive into Tony's childhood memories of his mother and his journey with Steve as they traverse Italy together to uncover a truth of Tony's past while also working to sort out their footholds after Civil War. Reading this fic feels like the summer before the start of a new school year, that intermission in which you spend each day without duties other than the duty to figure yourself out before you have to get back on the grind of schoolwork. It's a vacation and it's a breath of fresh air, except this fic is condensed into the timespan of 11 days. Which is crazy short but Tony's a prodigy who never slows down and Steve's a man displaced in time, so it doesn't matter too much anyway. Anything goes.
