    Summary

Eddie's hand was on him, finger pointing at his face. Bobby's hands in the air. Two people. Too close. Too loud. Hands everywhere.
Buck's vision tunnelled to a pinpoint. His body registered threats from multiple directions—Eddie in front, Bobby beside him, both of them with their hands raised, both of them angry, both of them *too close*.
The room tilted. Sound became muffled, distant. His father's voice overlapped with Bobby's. Connor's hands overlapped with Eddie's. Past and present collapsed into each other until Buck couldn't tell which was real.
*Hands coming up. Voices raised. Nowhere to run. Surrounded. Trapped. It's happening again. It's always happening again.*
But Buck's brain didn't see Eddie and Bobby.
Buck's brain saw violence coming from everywhere.

Or what happens when following the lawsuit they refuse to forgive Buck and cause him to have a dissociative episode, they realise Buck has been hurt before and so begins the healing journey for them all. This will be a long slow burn fully exploring trauma and recovery in depth, no quick fixes. There is reference to abuse in the past to Buck as a child and domestic violence too so please read with caution.

    Summary

Buck is barely old enough to tie his shoes when he first feels unwanted. He’s a preteen when he figures out the workaround—if he can’t be loved for who he is, he can make himself indispensable. So he gives and gives until he earns a place where he belongs, tasting the love he always craved. He gives until he’s completely hollowed out; until the lawsuit.

OR: The tsunami is long over. Buck keeps drowning anyway.

    Summary

Before he can think better of the action, Buck swipes to accept the call. He lifts his phone to his ear and, in a hoarse voice, says, "I'm not interested in buying my car an extended warranty. Actually, I'm not interested in buying anything unless it's a hefty life insurance policy I can enact within the next thirty seconds, so unless you've got that up your sleeve, go to hell, and stop taking advantage of poor idiots for their money."

For a long few seconds, the only response Buck receives is static. It crackles and hisses, but then there's a voice, weary, yet soft around the edges.

"Oh, wow," it says. "That is not what I was expecting at all."

Or: After having his leg crushed by a firetruck and his captain telling him he's unfit to work, Buck doesn't really see the point in anything anymore. That is, until his phone rings with an unknown number flashing across the screen, and a stranger by the name of Eddie Diaz makes him rethink everything.

    Summary

Buck was never allowed back to the 118 post-lawsuit. 3 months later, Eddie and Ravi find him at a party in the hills — high, hollowed out, and barely holding on.

What follows isn't a rescue. It's a slow, unglamourous fight to give a man his family back, one hard conversation at a time — a best friend choosing honesty when secrecy would be easier, a probie offering a safe harbor and simplicity, a boy who just wants to know why his person disappeared, and a captain who has to earn back what his silence cost.

Nothing gets fixed clean. But it gets carried together.
