“I processed the data, Russell. All of it,” Max began, his voice quieter and more certain than usual. “And I reached an unavoidable statistical conclusion. I may not be your type—I know you probably prefer historians who live in the past or philosophers who question the meaning of existence—but during this incredibly weird week, I realized something deeply irritating. You, despite being annoying, painfully organized, and obsessed with rules… are definitely my type.”
George went silent for a second, blue eyes locked onto Max’s, shining with an amusement that now felt far warmer than teasing. He leaned forward, shrinking the distance between them until the scent of sandalwood and coffee completely invaded Max’s senses.
“You are genuinely an idiot, Max,” George whispered with a breathy laugh. “Do you know why I never admitted any of this before? Because you walked up to me completely out of nowhere with that RIDICULOUS speech about ‘don’t fall for me, I’m difficult,’ like you were the lead character in some cheap romance movie. I refused to feed your whole ‘lone wolf’ ego. But the truth is, you, with your brutally honest attitude and your obsession with trying to optimize even my wardrobe—you are exactly my type. I was just waiting for you to stop acting unreachable long enough to notice the obvious.”

Alex didn’t move as George’s palm hovered over the side of his face; he held George’s gaze defiantly, not flinching or blinking, like he was challenging George again. Challenging George to touch him. To try and kiss him again.
He was just so infuriating.
George let his hand drop back to his side.
The smallest smirk appeared on Alex’s lips, like he took that as a personal victory. I knew you wouldn’t dare. George could hear the thought.
It took every last ounce of subversion in George’s body for him to turn around and make his way back to his car, leaving Alex standing alone on the front stoop.
